Hogwarts: The Last Bastion
Thank you Jazza for getting me drawing again!
The hobbits, perhaps in some lost chapter (geography be damned!) take the Ring to Hogwarts, standing as the last safe stronghold against the encroaching borders of Mordor, taking Buckleberry Ferry up to the steps. Gollum knows he cannot enter the school, but tries to keep a watchful eye on the tricksy hobbitses from the distant rocks. Frodo sees him, though, and is vigilant against his tricks...
This is my submission for the Challenge of the Month: Lord of the Hogwarts! I wanted Hogwarts itself to be the focus on this one, and all characters and icons in the piece to be relative to the school. I gave the building a lot of detail (too much, perhaps. I spent a week on it!) and spread the other characters around it. Even the lofty self-important scene of Mordor is held back by the Wizard School's presence!
I haven't been drawing much since high school, but the band I'm in wanted to do some visual art stuff for merch, so I went on Youtube looking for tutorials and the like, just browsing vids, really, when WHAM! I find Jazza's channel with great info, and an even better attitude that lit the fire under me like never before! I binge-watched all his videos, and those of Mark Krilley whom Jazza suggested, and eventually others like WLOP and Bailey Jae. I'm painting again, drawing again, and I even got an Intuos Pro to start digital art!
I've only had this tablet pen for a couple weeks, and this is my 2nd digital drawing with it, but I've already learned sooo much, and am excited to see what I can accomplish in the future!
Thank you again, Jazza, for enriching my life and giving me back something I didn't realize I lost! I'm happier, I sleep better, and I'm having such a wonderful time since joining your community!
Here are some stages of the Work-In-Progress:
