Flash is a multimedia software platform capable of producing both animation and interactive content such as games. Browsers support Flash content via the Flash plugin, scheduled to be removed in 2020. As a result, most web games are now made with HTML5 and animation is shared as video rather than the original SWF format.
Flash was developed by Macromedia (versions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, MX, MX 2004 and 8) and acquired by Adobe in 2005 (versions CS3+). Adobe has since re-branded Flash as Adobe Animate.
