This page now exists as a lasting tribute to Ben Spurgin.
Ben passed away from a heroin overdose on October 13, 2009.
A long-time member of the NG community, Ben created the popular Stick Slayer series as a way to poke fun at the number of stick movies on NG.
"Stickmen are many things. They are an animators practice tool, they are easy to draw, and they are violent. They are a scourge, a teeming horde of malicious demons that are consuming the Internet faster than porn sites. Their sole purpose is to destroy, maim, and kill each other and anything else they can get ahold of.
They must be stopped." -Ben Spurgin
Newgrounds has lost a legend.
In an interesting turn of events, someone actually made an anti-Stick Slayer movie! Author Steve Kim explained to us that he has nothing against the Stick Slayer, he just thought it would be funny. He doesn't have anything against stick movies in general, just bad movies - which don't necessarily require sticks.
Steve would also like to add that he hates people who rate movies "stupidly", and says that "Critics are like eunuchs (castrated men) in a harem (whore house) : they know how it's done, they've seen it done every day, but they're unable to do it themselves."
If you've enjoyed the Stick Slayer series, be sure to check out the rest of Ben Spurgin's work! Here are some more great movies by Ben!
"Many of you have seen them. Many of you have spoken to them. Many of you are them. They are the ones who huddle in the computer room at lunch. They are the ones still struggling up the social ladder. They are the few, the proud, the GEEKS. The geeks have long held a prophecy that a man would come. A messiah. Someone to lead them to true freedom. Behold the Power of the Geek!" - Ben Spurgin
Several submissions have been made in tribute to Ben.
