It's neither, actually. It's to give the character some distance from the shadow.

You know, it's funny. I spent the entire holidays drawing, as opposed to actually studying the history of art from the Lascaux Cave Paintings up to the Renaissance for my half yearly examination.
I think it's on Monday week. So plenty of time to read, and memorise 300 pages. Not to mention 5 other subjects I haven't studied for either.

Whoa! This is awesome! How is it that nobody has commented on this yet? I actually like several of the pieces you've posted here but by far this is my favorite. I really like your color sense in this one; you've got all of the colors I love; blues and pinks with some greens tastefully scattered about.
Also, good job on the "space colors." I never seem to get those quite right.
I have to say I do prefer this over the sketchy style of some of the earlier stuff you uploaded; and it's definitely a huge improvement over the original version. This has kind of an album cover vibe to it; something eye catching to get you to pick up a single you might not otherwise notice.
Anyway, sorry I didn't get around to commenting on your stuff until now, but it's quite good. Also, good luck in the Ng Miniposter Girl Contest.

So for mothers day, I did nothing. Like I have for the last 17 years. For some reason my mum goes 'Hey, do something, cause, I said so'. I ended up writing the dumbest thing in a card - "Thanks for food and money" (It sounded good at the time).

A picture is just a series of colours and lines. What the image actually is is completely dependant of the audience. A conscious mind will see it as one thing, while to an inanimate object, it is simply a series of colours and lines.

Your last pictue seems to show that you know more about facial anatomy that you've previously let on.
I would, however, give more studies a shot. Your figures have been rather stiff in a motion tweened flash movie sort of way.

Yeah, never seem to get those 'action shots' right, so I tend to avoid them. I'll try at a later date when I've leveled my drawing skills.

I have finally developed a style of which looks half decent and more importantly I'm considerably comfortable with.
I don't know how it is in other countries, but for my final year of art, we're supposed to make one final piece over an entire year. I'm planning of doing something in the same vain as this piece.
