Because more people visit the site during that time period. There's a huge injection of traffic through the Christmas months.

Woah! Is it just me or is anyone else noticing a huge increase in speed here on Newgrounds? Portal's loading in about a second, BBS is as well.

I am very glad this server problem is getting solved. This is the greatest site on the net and needs to be running on its prime.
