I desecrated a famous artwork! 2008-03-21 16:55:25

Well Kinda...

I saw that crack in the floor at the tate modern as part of my GCSE project on barriers.
After thinking how pessimistic the piece was `(it represents cracks in society between race, class etc) I decided to bridge it.

so bleh

I left it there BTW

you realise within minuites of leaving your bridge you lost the oppurtunity of becoming the UK's latest big artist. They consider anything Ironic or vaugely amusing an artists best work.

I couldnt agree with you more. and I love what you did here,

My only hope is that this artist fades to obscurity for her pretentiousness.
And that you are remembered for thinking the way we are supposed to think.,

Ha, thats actually pretty awesome. Funny thing is, it almost seems to complete it.

I can already imagine what they are saying,"Well that paints a gratifying image". ha, clever material, Mr. A.

You will get a high mark for that piece of work. I am at 6 forum at the moment and the younger year are doing barriers to. If you say why you did that in your work and if you relate your work to an artist you will be heading towards an A.

thats so simple, yet so clever O-o

I doubt the artist would've been angry with this interpretation.

Clever stunt, to say the least. But, I would be genuinely surprised if this sort of thing isn't a regular occurrence.

hah its amazing how one little detail could change the ideas of a piece of art into an inspiringly different piece.

Kudos. maybe more and more people will make their kind of paper bridges and "bridge that gap"

that would be monumental :D just more and more bridges popping up

Why do i try to be nice?

The force is strong in this one.

Brilliant idea, couldn't agree with ya more :D! Did you by chance get to visit again and see if it's still there? I'm betting money they removed it, the bastards...

Response to I desecrated a famous artwork! 2008-03-22 17:04:19

get some friends, build many bridges and assault the place to put all of them over the crack!

Response to I desecrated a famous artwork! 2008-03-22 17:28:30

Dude, that's awesome. Really.

That thing isn't art. It's a crack in the floor, given meaning and a price tag. I love what you've done here, man. I think you should add more to it. Make little people out of paper and place them along both sides of the crack. Make two of them meeting on the bridge. SCREW OVER MODERN ART.

At least, that's what I'd do. I'd be all over that. There'd be little crowds of paper people, and a nice little decorated bridge (the one you've made is perfect as a statement, but it is a bit crude), and all kinds of stuff happening.

I bet they take it away. Go back later and see if it's still there. If they moved it, put up another one. Continue until they leave it there.

Woah...I want to thank everyone for all this positive feedback...its really great to know people appreciate something that you weren't sure about yourself.
Although I would like to say-I do respect Doris Salcedo as a legitimate artist and in no way want to think of myself as better than her... I am just offering my opinion on a specific piece. I think that it is ironic to make a statement about divisions between race, in the centre of a vastly multicultural city, although other divisions it represents (class etc) may be more relevant...I'm just trying to have a more positive outlook on life.

About hose Ideas of extending the bridge Idea (more bridges, miniature people etc) I was fairly happy with the simplicity of the piece, but I do like the idea of people adding their own ones...

Oh my...that means a helluva lot coming from you... I love the work you do and find it very inspiring-thank you so much...(cocksucking ends)

also-this is my favorite shot of the Bridge.

I probably need to think up a name for this now...I can only think of 'bridging the gap'...which kinda sucks...hard.

no but thanks again to everyone who posted here.

Oddly enough, that small bridge just gave me that odd, warm, fuzzy feeling. Or maybe it's the fever I'v been having lately...

But that is really a heck of an thing you did there, great job!

Great idea and a smart way to express yourself. Gotta show this to all those other pessimists who think race actually matters anymore.

If i happened to be walking by and saw that, i would walk out, and then an hour later i'd be back with some cement or super glue.

This really does present the fact that we should forget that there are even different races, and that the gaps formed by racism should be bridged, in fact your idea for a title - "Bridging the Gap" - Is a very good one, it's short, and to the point.
