It happens with every person. A few years ago, a lot of people where into statwhoring and look at the list now. That's a difference if you talk about the activity in the portal. I think you are right about the fore/afterthought. I have been on NG since 2003 and a lot has changed. Over the years, the quality of the submissions has been higher it seems.
The past is different then nowadays. You good luck too :).

Yeah, to make competitive progress you pretty much have to catch 'em all. :) On the other hand: submissions don't pass judgment so quickly now, so you don't need to check as often to get most of the points, even if Blams in particular take a bit more attention since they disappear from the list quicker than the ones you save, might be why I'm not getting as many of those...

I signed up at the end of 2003 too, despite my misleading sign-up date. There was a server crash/issue/thing around that time where certain accounts were deleted (only the newest ones, maybe?), so I had to make another. Yeah, quality standards seemed to rise to the point where it seemed like new users might be discouraged from making stuff themselves, but maybe that was just a phase too. Won't ever be like the old days exactly, but still seems to go in waves a bit. :) Thanks.

I haven't experienced the crash or I wasn't active at that time. Yep, you may be right. But it also could be a motivation to practice flash or such. Luckily, there are users who submit submissions to blam.
I have been back for a while and I kinda have a feeling the users are less active. It could be me.

The importance of stats has been toned down, hmm. It could be a factor. I thought maybe there will be new levels for protecting/blamming submissions to motivate people to be more active again, but that was a mere fantasy. It seems we are a supreme commander for life.
Well, I have noticed that. When I was active, I was always lurking at the rankings and it also kept me here. It was good to be in the top 50 in some of the lists.

Would definitely be cool with some new B/P levels! I guess they have other things on their minds though, and last time they changed the level icons it wasn't to add new ones... though since I'm still not Level 60 that's alright. Ten years of non-stop deposits to reach the top level... any more than that would be a bit overkill! And for B/P badges, since the submission amounts are lower, I suppose the top one would take a lot of time to reach, too.

I don't know what they are up to. Yes, it would be harder to achieve the top rank according the factors you just called. They introduced new levels, why not new b/p levels. It could either motivate or demotivate users.

Hmm, yeah, that's true, with new levels other new badges could've been expected... new whistles and similar too. I do still like the style of the old levels over the new though, so I'd be a bit cautious about switching out other elements I like to something that... may not be as good... maybe that could've actually been why they didn't remake the lot of them in similar suite, that the user response wasn't as good as they expected...

I did not know that the whistles design has been changed until you said it. I noticed it just now. Damn, I need new contacts.
The website itself has improved like the layout. But like you, I also like the style of the old levels (not the really old ones).
I think it is important to listen to the users, new or old. Adding or revamping (new) stuff is risky. You don't know if people are going to like it or not.

Did I missed something? The user response wasn't as good as they expected?

I will not stop depositing EXP for now. But it is kinda my feeling because I am impatient.

There are not a lot of females on NG. I don't know if there would be notable differences or patterns, if it is on the forums, exp, blam/protect or something else, but it would be fun to see that.
