What makes a thread good if it doesn't include sex/masturbation or video games/consoles?

I would suggest the likes of ZeroAsALimit's thread about discussing music you're listening to, I felt that had the potential to be a great thread, but it just disappeared after a day or two. Same goes for Maus' Book thread, which again only lasted a short about of time.

Its because those threads were above the intelligence of the average user. In fact most attempts at intelligence here are discouraged by the users as can be seen in the low amount of interest and responses taken in those types of threads.

Firstly, if you have to talk about something that happened to you in real life on the BBS, you have nothing interesting to say.
Secondly, if you have to talk about how you lost your virginity or set a new record for longest continuous fap, you have nothing interesting to say.
Thirdly, console threads have been done oh-so-many times and they're just annoying now. I commonly post in them 'I'm sick and tired of these motherfucking console threads on this motherfucking forum!' The same goes with video game threads.
Finally, unless the thread is meant to be funny, it needs to have a serious tone.
