I guarantee I will be in the Top B/P'ers list and the Top Savers list if I vote like some other un-named idiots. But I also guarantee I wont be in the Top 5 Blammers list for the month, where I am 99% of the time because of sensible voting.

As for the blam/protect ratios , voting fairly and blacklisting: I can only speak about my habits and my opinion - which, after many years here on Newgrounds, goes something like this: Log in when I can, and review and vote fairly when I do, and clobber any foul reviews that I see. I'm not on as much as I was years back - real life does take it's toll - but when I am on I do get to vote on a subset of what plops through the portal. It is a lot of crap, and even with voting zero on the obvious crap, I only managed about 86 blams to 857 protects from 1/15/2014 through 2/15/2014 - a "wonderful" 10:1 ratio.

I don't really worry about ranking anymore...it's nice to see I'm up in the top 12, but that's not as important as voting fairly. I am sure if I upvoted everything I saw I'd have a lot more protects - but definitely less blams.

The problem is if the minority of voters vote fairly, and the majority vote to protect, all of our collective blam votes are lost against the tide of stat-whoring. Ms. Gagsy took a stand a few months ago - pretty much "blam" or no vote at all. I admire that...

So I wonder if we could try an experiment: from 3/1/2014 through 3/15/2014 all of us do the same thing - if a flash needs to be blammed, zero it - but if it's ok, just don't vote on it (don't worry, the save whores will cover it). It's only 2 weeks - but it would be interesting to see the outcome...yes, it could offset your monthly points, but so what?

Personally, I think we'd all see more blams - those "borderline" flashes that would get upvoted would be blammed now, as only blams would matter.

I am NOT saying we should zero-bomb everything - no no no no no! But I am saying we should learn to look with a more critical eye on what should pass and what should be removed.

But, hey, that's just my opinion -

submissions get blammed even quicker, users who earned few B/P points are exempt from the save/blam ratio requirement. sounds fair to me.

although i think you have to be pretty unlucky to not gain any blam points after like 50 saves.

wow. i managed to gain a rank about one month ago by earning on average 0.1 BP points a day, without even noticing it.
have stopped voting almost completely for a long time.

for now, my target is 5-10 B/P points per day, and hopefully i will pick up the momentum soon.

Almost seems like that example is aimed at me specifically? Here's my take on this bitter debate: voting fairly is voting according to your own tastes; tastes are relative. There's no guarantee that people all share the same sentiments as to what submissions should pass or not, and personally I feel like most of the content I stumble upon isn't bad at all, Content quality in the portal is way higher than it was when I started voting, so the decrease in blams can't be only due to an overall change in voting patterns. Some things still get through that I'd rather not, like: speedpaints, I zero in on those when I see them, and plenty of them (maybe even most of them, who knows) pass anyway - that hasn't changed how I vote. Recently one even won an award - I had no part in that, if the ratio above took into consideration points that weren't earned, it may be a bit different. I might've been topping that list in totals too, who knows.

I'm working on a spin-off myself, and have played a bunch of them that were pretty entertaining. You wouldn't consider voting by principle rather than judging based on effort or innovation abusing the system as well? Not saying they all deserve to be saved, but putting them all in the same pot sounds like unfair voting to me.

If it's an exact copy with just different graphics, then it's a zero.
If there's some sort of change in gameplay, then it might, MIGHT, get a 1 or 2, depending on other criteria.

When Murray (Bahamut) still held this list, he started removing select users from the list for abusing the voting system -savewhoring, in other words. When I took over, I consulted with the regulars here in this thread and we decided to continue on with this practice. I insert the "Blacklisted User" tag as a placeholder so the ranks remain accurate.
The current threshold for blacklisting is a save to blam ratio of 150:1; a ratio that should be effortlessly met by anyone using their entire voting panel when they vote. Blacklisting is determined by monthly pace, so a user who is blacklisted one month can easily be removed the next if they decide to vote fairly.

Not bad, but could be better.

I never thought I'd see the day, but I've all but retired from B/P. The addiction has well and truly died, and I don't even remember to deposit every day anymore (I missed two days last week without even noticing!). Once that would have been unthinkable, but I think at long last real life has caught up with me.

So I suspect that the one rank lost this week will be the first of many as I begin my slow descent back down the list. It will be a long long time happening after so many years of dedication, but ultimately inevitable.

Well, you'll be falling down the ranks a lot slower than I will. I'm looking at possibly losing two ranks this year for B/P so when I actually fall off the top 50 is another matter. The decision to step down from things is understandable as it happens to us all. Although, while I still have a lot of free time, particularly Sunday-Tuesday where I do fuck all, I am occupying myself in the real world more and more so I have less time to think of Newgrounds and for days where I'm home all day I'm mainly focused on other stuff. Despite that, I'll still do what I can to get my deposits done and the fact that I have a smartphone makes it a lot easier for me when I'm out all day.

Not sure how much you'll browse the BBS now and while I don't post as much as I used to, hopefully we'll still see you around.

Users that are blacklisted are clearly abusing the voting system solely to get higher in the ranks. We (the regulars of this thread) had a discussion when I took the list and agreed to continue with the practice. And myself being ranked #88 on the site in BP; it certainly isn't about jealousy.

Sorry everyone for my prolonged absence. I've been working 6 days a week now for the last several months and have had no time for NG -or the internet at all for that matter- for quite a while now. Thanks to the holiday weekend, I was able to sneak in a BP update at the last minute. It's just the raw update straight from the spreadsheet -no top gainer lists, blacklisting, or anything like that. I hope you enjoy nonetheless.

I still can't make any promises as to when I'll be able to post another update.
