I finished Black Lagoon, as well as Gurren-Lagann. Finally, Gainax; YOU FIGURED IT OUT. IT TOOK YOU IDIOTS A DECADE, BUT YOU FIGURED OUT HOW TO MAKE A DECENT ANIME SERIES, AND NOT BUT FUCK IT UP! The ending was fucking sad. Especially since my favourite character died. Fucking moe aspects, they got me.

As for Black Lagoon. If you're not watching it now, you have 48 hours until you do or i'll fucking bomb your shitty house. Seriously, I'm officially convinced that Leigharch is the greatest minor character ever. JIMI HENDRIX TOLD HIM HE MUST DEFEAT THE KLINGONS!!! He's awesome. Chaka may be no Kakihara, but he's fucking as funny as him. Also, it's absolutely hilarious in 2nd barrage how the Seiyu switch from Japanese to English with overplayed accents. It's absolutely hysterical. Watch it.

Also, in JJBA news, fucking Hiro Nakamura pulls a Dio by saying mudamudamudamudamudamuda in Heroes. FANTASTIC SHOW WATCH NOW!!!!

LOLownt.

FUCKING JEAN-LUC, FUCKING STAR TREK

Leigharch is the coolest crack fiend in TV history.

Chaka may be no Kakihara, but he's fucking as funny as him.

Josh Phillips in the dub, plox.

Also, it's absolutely hilarious in 2nd barrage how the Seiyu switch from Japanese to English with overplayed accents. It's absolutely hysterical. Watch it.

Fun fact: The manga does not suffer this problem, its use of English is almost perfectly grammatically correct.

Rei Hiroe is a genius.

This man truths.

The use of English in the anime is correct enough, it's the fact that the characters sound ridiculous speaking English in their monotonous, accent heavy voices that makes it funny.

As if the Japanese version of Black Lagoon wasn't mediocre enough to begin with...

It is literally one of the few shows I have to say only really works in English, the acting is hit-and-miss from the original cast (Revy doesn't sound intense enough) and the logic of using Japanese voices for the majority of the series (despite the hugely varied cast) and then throwing ludicrous sounding English into the mix is flawed beyond comprehension.

It was fine in Japanese, some of the voices were quite good.

Well, at least the first two arcs, that last arc dragged on a bit.

Meh, it just didn't grip me.

I blame the amazing English cast for being too damn good.

He's referring to the Region 1 release of Second Barrage.

It got cancelled, and likely will not see the light of day 'round these parts for a year or so.

As far as I remember, the only accent attempted in the Japanese dub was Shenhuas'.

It's an OVA by the way.

I am so glad I am bilingual now....

Every volume of the Black Lagoon and Black Jack mangas are available in French, as well as most of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

The pain is that French manga is scarce online and Amazon France is even more of a ripoff shithole than Amazon Canada.

What makes English translations so "normal" or "readable"?

Ugh, i know just have to check this out, will i die from laughter if i go there?

Not unless you can read French very well.

No poor Babelfish translation will do justice to the obscene prices, stab-in-the-back offers and looooooong shipping waits.

Well the idea of French being the general language of South East Asia is just a little more ridiculous than Japanese being the language.

Then again... Thailand IS right next to what was previously known as French Indochina...

I recently went to Barnes and Noble, and purchased my 2nd volume of Youtsuba&! (I started at 4, and I purchased 3 just now), and I got the one-shot Bobobobobobobo (Shame that VIZ decided not to translate the entire series, but oh well). I saw a few titles that interested me, and after researching them a bit on Wikipedia, I'd like to ask if they're worth pursuing, or if I should view the anime version of said manga series (if any).

Hot Gimmick - "Hatsumi, a 16-year old girl, lives in a company housing unit run by Mrs. Tachibana, the wife of the company's vice president. How a family behaves in the housing complex can affect an employee's status in the company. When her sister Akane thinks she might be pregnant, Hatsumi buys her a pregnancy test. Hatsumi is blackmailed by Ryoki, the son of the Tachibana family, into being his slave". It claims to be pretty mature for a shojo series.

Dragon Drive - After researching it, I don't have high hopes for it. It looks like Yu-Gi-Oh with virtual reality monsters instead of cards.

Beauty Pop - "The manga is about the life of a naturally talented hairstylist named Kiri Koshiba and her problems with the Scissors Project (S.P.), a group of boys determined to become the best makeover team in Japan". A shojo about hairstyling? Looks promising.

Reborn! - I still don't get the plot after scanning through the Wikipedia article. Something about a guy in Japan who is some sort of mob king, but he doesn't know it, so a one year old infant who is an expert hitman trains him to be the best mob boss ever.

Also, while researching, I stumbled upon a series called "Samurai Pizza Cats". I'm totally going to search for a means to watch this, since it looks like a fuckwin.

I remember watching that series when I was young.

The translation was ridiculously different to the original, but the original probably wouldn't have made sense in English, due to its cultural references and the like.

Either way, it was awesome when I used to watch it.

Dragon Drive - After researching it, I don't have high hopes for it. It looks like Yu-Gi-Oh with virtual reality monsters instead of cards.

Wow I admit I liked the first seasons of yu-gi-oh when I was younger but they often bend the rules of the game and they have a very cheesey plot, etc. Those kinds of animes are very overrated in my opinion, like pokemon, I just can't wait until those kinds of animes popularity dies down!

Beauty Pop - "The manga is about the life of a naturally talented hairstylist named Kiri Koshiba and her problems with the Scissors Project (S.P.), a group of boys determined to become the best makeover team in Japan". A shojo about hairstyling? Looks promising.

I actually own that series on DVD, I bought the entire show on DVD at a book sale at school along with a mini tracking device and the book "The bourne Identity" which I am in love with. Anyway I don't remeber it that well after the first episode, which was so-so, but I can't remeber after that. Either I never got around to watching behond the first episode or I really have forgotten about it.

I say give it a shot.

Reborn! - I still don't get the plot after scanning through the Wikipedia article. Something about a guy in Japan who is some sort of mob king, but he doesn't know it, so a one year old infant who is an expert hitman trains him to be the best mob boss ever.
It's a shonen series, im not wasting my time with it.

Actually I own this series too, It was quite good. Not generic like naruto, inyuyasha or DBZ or bleach(The way you see it anyway.) I am actually not surprised in any way about wikipedia though, as far as the range of hundreds of animes and mangas out there go, this is quite easily one of the biggest nobody ones there is. Shame.

Also, while researching, I stumbled upon a series called "Samurai Pizza Cats". I'm totally going to search for a means to watch this, since it looks like a fuckwin.
Heard about it as well, id watch it just for shits and giggles and the ridiculous plot premise.

That series looks like it has a lot of comic potiential! If you get too watch it tell me how it is.

At 10/4/07 02:51 PM, tatsumaru7 wrote: whats an ova or wat ever?

Like a mini sort of movie, im not that good at explainning it though.

whats the diffrence between animes and mangas?

Mangas = Japaneese comic books.

Anime = Japaneese cartoons, usually based after the manga(Like X-man the comic and X-man the show.) but not always.

2 eps for ninja resurrection? why?

What do you want us to say? That it was so crappy they only made two episodes?!

sorry guys im just really curious and googles to much hassle

1.) Google and wikipedia are NOT too much trouble, oh 30 seconds - 2 minutes BIG WOOP!

2.) Ever hear how curiosity killed the cat? Its better to reasearch those things or use context clues to figure it out rather than asking people on newgrounds.

3.) Please use better spelling and grammar.

-------------

Have any of you watched the nine episode long animatrix? Its a mini anime that is like 10 - 20 minutes long each explainning everything during and before the time frame of the matrix movies in anime form. Pretty good in my opinion, my favorites were the second reniassance part one and second reniassance Part two, easily.

I haven't posted in a while so I thought I would drop by. I had a ban for two days because I posted in a spam thread then after that I just haven't been online much and when I was it was email, not newgrounds.

In other news I have been watching black lagoon a little, I THINK I am on either episode 14 or episode 17. Its pretty good so far, around a 8 or 9 out of 10.. I really like it but i'm wicked surprised I haven't gotten hocked yet!

Also, Gurren Lagann OST makes my ears happy.
