The lighting of the shoes suggests that they are pointing towards the camera, and the position of the arms and shoulders.
I'd say that the person in the photo is walking away from the light.

Who gives a shit anyway? Looks to me like walking toward the light. I GUESS WE'LL NEVER KNOW DA TRUTH.
Anyway, it's a pretty rad picture. Would've been better if the figure and light were in the center, not on the left side. Composition could be better.

I DISAGREE
ALTHOUGH, I think It would be better without the light's flareing, but having the person and the light on the left is MUCH more interesting because it makes your eye scan the image and look at the details. The rule of thirds is all like : DON CHU DO DAT, HOMES, YOU'LL LOOK AT IT FOR TWO SECS KAND YOU WONT LOOK AGAIN LMAOROFL.
just saying
I'll pitch in and say I'd find a picture faced away from the light a much more interesting image.
Lightfall like that is hard to come by.
On topic:
Jpeg totally fucks this up, more awesome version here.

True. I meant to get a kind of surreal look but it could have been clearer.
Really like your "walking toward the light" photo--looks like the icon for Neverending Light.

Actually, they are walking away from the light. I know, 'cause I was there see. What with it being me who took the photo.
Hey fellas, how would I go about creating a dramatic, hard light like this one?

Take a dark room, and use a construction lamp, or maybe a maclight. You don't usually get this effect without some interference.
