Spybot search and destroy is good, and if you want a pop-up blocker then use google's it's quick effective..
I was gonna be sarcastic and say a shotgun to the harddrive, but I'll go with the masses. I actually do have Spybot Search and Destroy. It really does work quite well.
Spyware Doctor, You have to buy it or just get it off a sharing application like bearshare, eTomi etc with a crack that allows you to use it with out needing a real cd key.

I strongly suggest that you buy Norton Anti-Virus. You could find and use all the free programs you want, but it will never match the power of Norton.
Ad-aware is pretty good. And it's free.
