Pat Robertson-insane or just senile

"Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians. It's no different. It is the same thing. It is happening all over again. It is the Democratic Congress, the liberal-based media and the homosexuals who want to destroy the Christians. Wholesale abuse and discrimination and the worst bigotry directed toward any group in America today. More terrible than anything suffered by any minority in history."

-Pat Robertson

This man is a respected icon in American politics.

What the fuck is wrong with this country?

Respected? Not really. More like ridiculed.

Dead.

Anyone who talks about politics is ridiculed, even us here on this forum.

The fact is, this man is on television, and that makes me very sad.

Pat Robertson just got too much fat in his head.

I'll admit his comments are a littlebit extreme, but can you honestly look at these forums on any given day and NOT agree with the sentiment he puts across?

Here are some of my favorite quotes from Robertson:

"It is interesting, that termites don't build things, and the great builders of our nation almost to a man have been Christians, because Christians have the desire to build something. He is motivated by love of man and God, so he builds. The people who have come into [our] institutions [today] are primarily termites. They are into destroying institutions that have been built by Christians, whether it is universities, governments, our own traditions, that we have.... The termites are in charge now, and that is not the way it ought to be, and the time has arrived for a godly fumigation."

"The courts are merely a ruse, if you will, for humanist, atheistic educators to beat up on Christians."

"When I said during my presidential bid that I would only bring Christians and Jews into the government, I hit a firestorm. `What do you mean?' the media challenged me. `You're not going to bring atheists into the government? How dare you maintain that those who believe in the Judeo Christian values are better qualified to govern America than Hindus and Muslims?' My simple answer is, `Yes, they are.'"

"The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians."

(talking about Planned Parenthood) "It is teaching kids to fornicate, teaching people to have adultery, every kind of bestiality, homosexuality, lesbianism-everything that the Bible condemns."

"You see what happened in 1962. They took prayer out of the schools. The next year the Supreme Court ordered Bible reading taken from the schools. And then progressing, liberals, most of them atheistic educators, have pushed to remove all religion from the lives of children...The people who wrote the "Humanist Manifesto" and their pupils and their disciples are in charge of education in America today."

"If anybody understood what Hindus really believe, there would be no doubt that they have no business administering government policies in a country that favors freedom and equality. ... Can you imagine having the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini as defense minister, or Mahatma Gandhi as minister of health, education, and welfare? The Hindu and Buddhist idea of karma and the Muslim idea of kismet, or fate condemn the poor and the disabled to their suffering. ... It's the will of Allah. These beliefs are nothing but abject fatalism, and they would devastate the social gains this nation has made if they were ever put into practice."

"How can there be peace when drunkards, drug dealers, communists, atheists, New Age worshipers of Satan, secular humanists, oppressive dictators, greedy money changers, revolutionary assassins, adulterers, and homosexuals are on top?"

"Many of those people involved with Adolph Hitler were Satanists, many of them were homosexuals--the two things seem to go together."

Yep... because the conservatives are the ones that want to destroy the other political side.

Liberals quite frankly care, but won't act so merciless towards the opposition.

Well what other terms would you use to describe the constant conservative bashing that goes on here day in and day out? Hell, it's a wonder there's even any conservatives here as it is, no wonder we don't see to many new ones here...

Proteas, I was about to write a long, drawn-out reply, but suffice to say, I think you're view of the board is ruined by preconcieved notions and a selective memory. I'd also like to point out that an online bulletin board on a flash site is not indicative of anything, least of "reality."

And the exact same thing goes on with Conservatives bashing liberals, and then you have your Conservatives and Liberals that actually debate rather than constantly put the opposing side down. Neither the conservatives or liberals want to destroy america, they both are doing what they think is best for the nation, although you do have a few on both side that are purely looking out for #1, but for the most part they just want what they think is best for the nation, even President Bush.

Proteas, I just have to say that there's a bit of a difference between kids in a political forum posting garbage along the lines of, "FUCK YOU CONSERVATIVES SUCK I HATE BUSH!!!111!111," and a tyrannical government loading Christians into gas chambers by the truckload. It takes an extremely far, taffy-like stretch of the imagination, to liken a little conservative bashing unto the holocaust.

The thing that bothers me the most about Pat Robertson (and many people with a Christianity-based set of morals) is their selective following of the bible.

If the bible says to hate faggots, then they say hey, I hate faggots.

But when the bible says to love thy neighbor, they seem to interprit it as "Love thy neighbor, unless thy neighbor is a faggot."

That's not the way things should be among Christians, let alone among the christians who want to be involved in major politics.

Well, the first problem there is that people like Pat Roberson don't follow Christian morals. Second, the Bible never does say to hate faggots, there's just a couple of ambiguous passages that mention homosexuals being damned by that act. But even with those passages someone who followed Christ's moral veiws would indeed love his neighbor enough not to attack, harrass, etc, though he might try to persuade the man to give up his sin.

People like Pat, well, they're just assholes who abuse everything Jesus stood for by misusing the Bible as a weapon and political tool. I like to enjoy the irony that, if Pat's religion is right, he's going strait to Hell for his hatred, pride, and intolerance.

And why shouldn't he?
