Well I finally moved in the top 600 and I must say the moving up in the ranks is rather slow.

I might as well stop now....not.

In one day? Even if Pimp HAS missed deposits recently the max you'd gain on the next level would be 10 per day. As disappointing as it is, the requirement for next level wouldn't decrease if Pimp missed a deposit, rather stay put. The fact that the amount you gained on the next level in whatever amount of days it took you is NOT a multiple of 10 proves that Pimp deposited at least once over the period.

The thread Reaming-Puke made his assumption from was actually the first thing Pimp ever posted, back in 2001 (and even if it wasn't, Pimp's last post was in November of last year, hardly 'a few days ago'). DoD just isn't too great at reading timestamps. Or utilizing common sense, I imagine.

I find it horribly ironic that this kind of blind conversation arose in a thread about tracking experience.

Looking at ramagies April update I only got +2 from Denny and DingleBerryClock.

Considering that update has Pimp's exp listed as 26,496 on April 1 and he has 26,766 now, he's obviously gained 270 exp so far this month. Being only 1am, it's likely he hasn't deposited today yet and if we assume he'd already deposited when his exp was pulled for the monthly list, then he couldn't have missed a deposit.

But of course, if he HADN'T deposited before his exp was pulled and if he HAS already deposited today then we might have just gotten lucky after all. ; D

I paste all of my deposits in a text file so I can see how long it takes me to level up, when I leveled up and whatnot, and I have this.

04/12/07 You now have 18,488 experience points. You need 638 more to get to level 24.
04/13/07 You now have 18,498 experience points. You need 628 more to get to level 24.
04/14/07 You now have 18,508 experience points. You need 618 more to get to level 24.

So he clearly missed at least one deposit. If I deposited after him on the 12th, and then deposited before him on the 13th, I would have made the 10 closer to the next level. But then he would have deposited sometime on the 13th, and when I deposited on the 14th, it would have only been something like 625 more.

The point is... Don't lose your dinosaur.

Supercongratu-fucking-lations, man. Top 100 exp is just about the hardest thing on NG to do.

Oh wait... top 50 exp...

Oh wait.... top 10 exp...

I won't say top 1 exp, because the people who have touched that are the folks who were lucky enough to be into NG or dedicated enough or had the foresight to see the day when exp was teh super-1337 back in 2000... and never stopped or even though about stopping. So while that's impressive, they've always been high ranked. It's not as impressive as someone crawling up from the abyss to hit one of those other (possibly attainable) marks.

And the top 100 is the first step. Unless you want to throw the top 200 in, which... well, it is quite impressive to make the top 200 even moreso now that it's getting so lofty.

It serves a number of purposes, just as the other stat lists in Wi/Ht? do.

It allows users to see where they are in comparison to other users, to see how many users have a specific level, to see if they've missed deposits or if anyone close to them has, to show a complete listing of the top 2000 users for informational purposes (as it's much more complete than the top 50 provided by Newgrounds) or for those simply interested on where they rank up.

As you mention, it can also offer a sense of achievement to those who make it on the list and continue to gain exp.

Well, on a scale from a list showing 0 people based on exp on NG... to showing all the users on NG.... 2000 is certainly more complete than 50. But I dunno about much more. That makes it sound like NG has only 3 or 4 thousand users. This ain't Retrogade. #;-}>

Nah, I know what you mean. Us stat-obsessed folks can chew through a top 50 in a few moments of looking it over. 2000 takes awhile to digest (if any of us even bother to scan over ALL of the top 2000 that often, and as a result... provides more of a "five course meal" to the top 50's "tiny midnight snack."

Mmmm... top 2000.
