Whoever did this didn't actually use Tom's email address, they just changed the "From:" field to 'tom@newgrounds.com'. When you send an email, the 'From' field isn't even checked to see if it's a valid address, and if you know what you're doing, you can type anything in there, including someone else's email address.

exactly what ^ said. it is very easy to send fake mails. Thus this attempt is not about hacking.

:(This is usually done in a regular e-mail program as opposed to an online mail service like Hotmail).

I would not doubt that the person in question did send a keylogger. They would probably use it to steal that users newgrounds account and bask in the glory that is having a movie on the front page. Then they probably would have caught em after the real owner of the account talked it over with tom and tom put ip tracking on that NG account.

Don't you hate retards!

Did he actually hack into your e-mail account? I didn't think that was even possible to access newgrounds.com e-mail as a user...

Srange, thanks for the warning Tom.

FOR CHRIST'S SAKE! Read the thread before postnig!

Response to Warning: Fake Tom Email 2005-03-30 08:38:25

Wow. It makes you think doesn't it? To think that someone would actually try this is appalling. Tom, you should, in your E-Mails, put some confirmation that it is you, other wise some people will put you in some deep shit.

attempt of virus spreading more likely
Seems like a too complicated way to spread virus to me.

If I'd go through that kind of hastle, I'd atleast try to hack someone to gain some profit
(like I'd do anything like that, I couldn't hack shit...)

complicated!? trust me people will do a lot more crap than that to get a virus on your comp. sounds like a brute-force hacker that knows some basic flash.
don't call me a hacker i quit.

Response to Warning: Fake Tom Email 2005-05-21 17:05:45

for anyone that doesn't know a brute force hacking is one that uses password after password until they get a hit and break in.
It is commonly done with a hacking system.
These systems are commonly custom fit to a system (like one for hotmail one for aol etc.)
i hope that helped clear up what brute force hacking meant to you.

p.s. i was never a hacker dont take my last joke too seriously.

Woah... Nasty... *Hugs computer* STAY BACK!

Response to Warning: Fake Tom Email 2005-06-02 22:13:20

On a hacking system/machine/thingy the whole way it works is it projects a pasord into what your trying to hack and then repeats about million times til it gets the right one. Only takes about 2 minutes too. I'm not a hacker though. *cough*mydadis*cough*

Response to Warning: Fake Tom Email 2005-06-04 11:51:03

Although I don't have the software or the kind of computer you would need to trace an e-mail, it's one way to find out who's sending you fake NG e-mails. Some might call it hacking, others would call it poetic justice.

Response to Warning: Fake Tom Email 2005-06-04 22:58:29

track it back?
