I understand that you need sponsorship for $$$ to keep NG running, but don't consolidate with thrid parties because they are always the ones who virus up yer friggin comps.... I have to come in through a random portal link now to avoid it...

And yes I did find one on the FRONT PAGE of NG, it was some company called "Second Thought" that aggressivly tries to download it's self onto your computer and gives you trojan.angents I don believe and some virus that began with HTML (I don't know, I had housecall and Ad-aware eliminate them)

Well, let this be a lession to you, Tom.

Third parties = DOOM (For us).

Hey Tom, this isn't a virus, but it's another advertisement that blocks the movie window. I'm viewing a "Suitable for All" movie, and I've got an American Express ad in the middle of the window. The button to close the ad is covered up by the "average price of gasoline" ad above it, so it's just stuck there, in my way.

Response to Virus Crackdown 2004-09-13 14:04:27

BTW, ads are not needed if people donate. try to get some good sponsors who give good money without ads like that. Ad banners on normal webpages, No problem. but no pop ups! please!

thanks in advance,
NW

Uhmmm...no

ok Do these ads that you sponsor even pay you people tom? I mean cause if they pay you....and you put them on your site...im pretty sure that that there is some sort of contract in there somewhere. Why dont you just sue the bitches. Can you even, ylu should let us know. That way anyone who's computer was infected by that shit could join you with subpoenas or whatever like super sue the fuck out of them. DO IT DO IT

Wait, do you mean some really weird adverts that pop up inside the window? Preventing you from pressing the links to open the window, or even vote? I've got a couple of them now, but I haven't come across any trojans i don't think. And yeah, sometimes I get smiley central adverts, and i can't close them!!

Ok. Get rid of the damn AOL ad. Every time I get it (picture below) on the submission page, the "watch this movie" button no longer works. Then I have to reload it many times before I get an AD other than the AOL one that doesn't kill the watch button. Please do something about this.

Well, this is not exactly a virus but it IS annoying. I once entered the "Games" page and a small game come up. It's like silent scope, uhm...Shoot the terrorist and get a free Ipod or something. Well, it does hide your mouse on enterframe, and you know what that means...no mouse on the whole page!

"Wait, I thought that was only if the mouse is over the flash file? Anyhow, yeah, why bother making such annoying ads that download virus', block buttons and hide you're mouse?! Its just so god-damn annoying!!

I seen DIALERS a couple of times i entered newgrounds. Like do you want to execept things, which are really anoying, and i mean someone could press yes by mistake. But nothing else.

Response to Virus Crackdown 2004-09-13 14:58:32

I got an ad that was in front of everything, but not in a seperate window, so I couldn't view the movie. I don't even know what age group it was. Hope this helps.

Well, is he made of wood, or metal? Otherwise when it's made from metal you could let him in but be sure to...uhm...well...give him coffee!

Response to Virus Crackdown 2004-09-13 15:26:11

I've seen them on almost all the portal views ive looked into, heres the most recent, and by the way, this is rated teen.

here or, if u just want the address, http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/191740

Response to Virus Crackdown 2004-09-13 15:27:12

Yeah, those are the same god awful and down right annoying ads i get, cept i get ads for smiley central and some other thing that looks like a flag, sometimes you can hopefully close them by simply clicking on a x in the top right corner of the image like anything else, but Smiley central is just being evil by making it stay there!

I haven't found any viruses yet. I'm sure my Norton would have caught any. Good luck finding them though, if I see any I'll come back to this thread and post.

I have noticed that on three occasions my computer got infected, I had to do system restores to *make it appear* fixed. Anyway, I don't know the URL's, but I do know the names of the installed files were adblaster and Virtual Bouncer...hope that helps.

Response to Virus Crackdown 2004-09-13 16:05:54

There were always a bunch of pop-ups for me whenever I went to the audio portal, but for some reason I was banned from it, and I have no idea why, but I dont have to deal witht hose pop-ups anymore

Response to Virus Crackdown 2004-09-13 16:06:24

ads hardly pay at all, about 10 cents a hit or something. Tom Fulp needs to get a job. Or a better one.

Response to Virus Crackdown 2004-09-13 16:20:06

Tom, I would like to tell you this earlier, but, here it goes:

Newgrounds nowadays isn´t very far from those annoying porn sites with millions of popups and viruses...

Tom, please kick those fucking sponsors away and get some real sponsors... I know you can do it...

Another idea, is shutdown newgrounds and build it again... Like the old days...

yea, no one likes those annoying porn ads. Just because they get more hits then other ads doesnt mean you should go and sacrifice the quality of the site with them.

oh yea and an annoying chili's resteraunt ad keeps popping up here.

If I see any, I'll let you know. I havn't come across any yet, thank god, but if I do, I will tell you.

Hmm, to many third party as supports doesn't sound very trustful, but ok. You know a hell of a lot more about this than I do.

Damn.
The bastards are on NG now.
I have TONS (Trust me) of experience with Trojans and Spyware.
I'll keep a look out Tom.

Oh for you NG users out there who need help getting spyware of your computer, try Adaware(By Lavasoft) and spybot(Just the Personal Edition for Adaware, It's free).
