Treasure Hunt 2023 Winners

In February, @SplatterDash and @The-Great-One revived the Newgrounds Treasure Hunt, where participants are invited to dig up gems on the site that hadn’t previously won awards or been featured on the front page.

We hosted a fundraiser for prizes, with the top entry in each category (animation, game, art, music) winning $188 and another $188 awarded to the Treasure Hunter who dug it up.

A panel of judges was assembled to sift through the entries and declare the biggest gems.

A Very Hobo Hobo Christmas Special, by @HoboGuyCool, dug up by @zayJax.

HoboGuyCool has quickly become a household name on NG this year, however his first upload in December didn’t win an award and wasn’t featured.

Game 

Shoku's Treasures, by @lostSWFfiles2003, dug up by @Catoblepas.

People often ask, “is it ok to submit something A-rated to this event?” and the response is usually “you can, but it isn’t likely to win.” Never say never, though! BrandyBuizel noted, “It is stupid how diverse this game's content gets.”

This Psychonauts piece flew under the radar in 2018 but shot to the front page when it came up in the Treasure Hunt thread.

Closing Thoughts

Thank you everyone who participated in Treasure Hunt 2023! This is a tough and time-consuming event to judge, which is why I had stopped doing these over a decade ago. It’s super exciting to have the hunt back, though and I’m already looking forward to next year.

June 23rd is the Too Many Games Meetup in PA.

Playlists could use this neat feature: The ability to re-sort and reorganize them as I please.

Right now I can't move some of them to the bottom (or create playlist lists without having to delete and remake from scratch)

To be fair, it's actually a cool pirate simulator made entirely in Flash, with only a few adult scenes (you get to shag the 3 girls after each major challenge, but nothing lewd happens during regular gameplay)

I agree. Hopefully, this topic leads to another Treasure Hunt happening soon. Once a year, would be great. Could we have two of them per year?

I would be tempted to do it more than once per year if we could build a system that facilitates community submission and community voting, sort of like the monthly voting but for the Treasure Hunt. Dunno if we'd ever do that though.

When I first heard of the Treasure Hunt thing, I thought was going to be a real Treasure Hunt, as in looking for Treasure somewhere in the pages of this website (Like; the wiki page or Calender Page) and the first person to upload a screenshot gets a prize. 

Also, I was mentioned about my Madness Playlist!? Dude, I am honored. I didn’t even have to replay it.
