Art Inspired Music Contest

The 2023 Art Inspired Music Contest has been announced by @Random-storykeeper! This is an annual event where the goal is to create music inspired by art here on Newgrounds. It’s a really fun way for the Art and Audio Portals to intermingle, read the post for more details!

The start date for entries is April 21st and the deadline is June 19th.

Audio Portal 20th Anniversary Collab

If you missed it, @ThatJohnnyGuy organized an NG Audio Portal 20th Anniversary Collab with 87 participants and 60 instrumental pieces blended together in one big song. Thank you everyone who contributed to this as well, seeing the Audio Portal celebrate 20 years in style brings joy to the hearts of a lot of us here on NG.

Flash Preservation with Ruffle

I’ve been posting a lot about Ruffle this month because it has been making tremendous advances with AS3 support. If you’ve been browsing our Greatest Games of All Time list, you’ve probably been surprised to see how many of the games are now running in-browser. Expect to see more great progress in the weeks ahead. 

Dinnerbone (of Minecraft fame) is currently working on optimizations to BitmapData that will improve performance for a lot of games and it also looks like Fancy Pants World 4 Part 2 may be switching over to Ruffle soon.

There’s this dev @AurenSnyder from the 2010-2013 period who shared a bunch of unique games that completely flew under the radar. All but two of them are running via Ruffle now and I’ve popped WRRRMZ on the front page:

Update: @Zanzlanz noted that Auren more recently made The Floor is Jelly and BOTOLO on Steam.

I’m sure there are many more gems to be found!

It's so cool her older games are becoming preserved and highlighted like that :)

is "newgrounds rumble" working on anyone else's devices? last time i checked was on mly old laptop, which needed the newgrounds player to run it. But the player doesn't work on linux and whenever I start the game I just get a black screen so is that not converted into ruffle yet?

It still has some issues in Ruffle, last I checked.

How great was this Jam, I hope there will be many more, I really enjoyed making this game (Scrapsea Survival) it makes me sad to never be among the first places but I'm happy to have obtained the recognition, congratulations to the winners and I hope to see you again in the next Jams, you all did amazing games :D
