Closing Thoughts

Thank you everyone who made December a month to remember! Thank you to the crews behind Tankmas ADVENTure and the Sketch Collab, two grand traditions that will hopefully continue forever.

My Christmas post highlighted a bunch of animation, games, art and audio made for the holidays and we ended the year with a 2022 Year-End Recap. What a year! I hope you’re reading all this!

January is a busy month for fundraising and it makes a huge difference with how the rest of our year will unfold. Big prizes encourage big turnouts for individual events, so if you have a specific appreciation for things like pixel art or the creation of new Flash content (which also drives interest in Flash preservation), consider sponsoring one or several of these events!

Pixel Day is January 23rd and you can participate by sharing your own original pixel art, animation, games and chiptunes. We’re offering over $2,000 in prizes and are crowdfunding for more.

The Flash Forward Jam is in progress and you can participate by making an original game or interactive movie that runs on the web via Ruffle. We have over $3,000 in prizes and are crowdfunding here as well!

The Friendly Frog Collab deadline is January 27th! Make a feel good animation of one or more frogs doing something to participate, entries will be combined into one big animation. More details in the post!

Pico Day is set for May 6th and you can participate by making fan art, animation, games or music about something you love here on Newgrounds. We’re kicking things off with $1k in prizes and crowdfunding is open for this as well.

If you’re down to sponsor an event, use the donation option on the Supporter page and PM me with a heads up of which event you donated towards.

Becoming an ongoing Supporter is also a great way to help fund the default prizes for events like these, in addition to our monthly prizes. The top five movies and top five games of January will each be awarded $100, with a bonus $200 each for the best animation and best game based on original material.

Congratulations to all the wonderful game devs this month as usual, and thanks for the shoutout for my monthly review post: check it out for some top recommendations! (well, in my opinion) Was worried I wouldn't get it out at time: currently at MAGfest but was able to get it finalized during some brief moments of respite.

Very much looking forward to the flood of games from the upcoming Pixel Day and Flash Forward events: maybe I'll see if I can have something in time to show for those, but most likely I'll just be ready as usual to review!
