The Artist News hub got a small update; the navigation options have been changed to reflect the movie / game / art / audio hubs, rather than links in the header bar. We’ve removed the “Staff” category and lumped us in with the rest of you, while adding a link to Your Feed, so it’s easier to get news from people you follow. Bonus update: Performance improvements for snappier loading.

For the record, what are the specific requirements for being listed as an "artist" rather than a "general user", and can this be changed or revoked?

Having something in any of the Portals makes someone appear under the Artist category. There isn't anything that gets manually set there / no tool for revoking it.

I understand, but by that logic, wouldn't that mean technically someone could qualify as an artist just by submitting some crappy pencil doodles to the Art Portal or a barely passing Scratch game and never do it again?

Whoa! Happy to see @ArtDeepMind featured here. He’s a cool dude with a lot of cool original concepts as well as the standard fantasy art! Definitely go check out his player character concepts for a hypothetical game - who knows, maybe someone will find those who’s willing to help turn it into something? Either way, they’re very fun.

I also recommend the piece called “Illusion”, because Slavic folklore is cool.

Regarding the news hub I'll be missing that staff section a bit, even if it wasn't always brimming with new content it was like a get-to-know-the-people-behind-the-site kinda hub, just fun to have around.

I suggest the following criteria.

1. Been on Newgrounds for 14 days
2. Scouted on the Audio or Art Portal, or 2 solo games/movies scored higher than 2.50

OR

1. Frontpage permissions, whichever comes first.

This seems like sensible criteria. I like it. Would keep scammers and all at bay too, if that is a problem at all, don't think I've seen any in the newsposts section yet. But simple precaution if such things do come to be.

Also wonder when that bug that prevents list items from getting included in a quoted message like the above might get fixed...
