If you missed it, the Best of January were announced Monday!
Last month we celebrated our seventh annual Pixel Day, with pixel-themed art, games, animation and music. Here are the winners!
Top Eight Games
๐1st - $450
@Stepford, @Andyl4nd and @milkypossum were the dream team this year, introducing us all to Olive and her wondrous world of drawing.
โVery complete feeling. Tons of time and effort/polish put into the story/characters cutscenes, transitions, loading screens, settings, and sound (Simpsons arcade/TMNT arcade feels). Intuitive controls, notwithstanding the very innovative concept. Intense dual-hand coordination, but never unfair feeling. Pixel-perfect authenticity. I dig the idea of game design that is optimized for non-standard devices like a drawing tablet.โ - @BoMToons
๐2nd - $250
@Tombdude, @MKMaffo, @Prutte, @ayekerik and @DOGL teamed up to give us the genre mashup we never knew we wanted; a bullet hell parking game. The visuals are vibrant and juicy, the music is groovy, it's a fun package all around!
โFelt like a cross between RC Pro-am, every SHMUP, and the original Grand Theft Auto. Cool casual concept and not overly punishing for playing poorly.โ - @BoMToons
๐3rd - $225
@jefvel delivered a joyous romp, turning a zombie apocalypse into a rhythm game.
โLoved the story-driven concept for a rhythm game. I was surprised when the beat line tilted to match the story action. Had genuine fun tapping my foot and keyboard to the beat.โ -@BoMToons
๐4th - $200
@LeviRamirez and company created an addictive roguelike with great style, tricky enemies and sinister bosses! Weโre looking forward to the full release on Steam.
๐5th - $100
@Jack got ambitious with the mechanics this time around, creating a world you can rotate at will, while ALSO bending gravity to move and throw objects. The mechanics were a lot for many to get comfortable with and the timers can be unforgiving but itโs all so brilliant. Fun art by @ayekerik and @spazgunk, cool music by @Icy14 and voice by @gooberthed rounds out this totally pro game.
๐6th - $100
Fans of Darkest Dungeon wonโt want to miss Peterโs Quest, probably the most polished game ever made about smashing ants with a hammer. @SlickRamen and crew really went all out with a deep game!
๐7th - $50
Donโt be fooled by first appearances, the moment you start wiggling your mouse around, youโll realize @3p0ch made something special here.
โWhat appeared on the surface to be an olskool โfirst game everโ concept got turned on its head in a big, surprising way. Must play! More bg music tracks needed!โ - @BoMToons
๐8th - $50
@Pomegranite enlisted numerous artists and musicians from the community to bring us the ultimate NG-themed Picross game!
โPicross is an old concept, but executed well here.โ - @BoMToons
