I have a question.

Are PSA parodies OK? They used to be common during Saturday Mornings and they were animated.

Stuff like Time for Timer, which aired on ABC Saturday Mornings from the 1970s to the early 1990s, plus "Sonic Sez", the G.I. Joe PSAs, etc."Schoolhouse Rock" also sorta fits this bill, too

Yes yes yes, just follow the rest of the guidelines like including a title card for it!

"What if Newgrounds was your Saturday Morning cartoon-block on TV?"

The challenge this time is for animators to emulate the style of both classic and retro television cartoons from the 1970s to 1999. Make use of classic tropes (imagine if Pico's School was retold like an episode of Scooby-Doo), stylize your work to fit different eras (like GI Joe shown in glorious Standard Definition with VHS static and broadcast quality color), and entertain the internet on Saturday Morning, July 24th!

Make use of classic Newgrounds games, movies, and characters for subjects(share the original content that inspired you in your project description), or take on the challenge with your own original characters. @HappyHarry is one creator heavily influenced by this era of western animation and uses that lens on their own IP, such as DR. BEES!

JAM REQUIREMENTS

Upload your animation to Newgrounds any time between now and the due date. There is no formal signup process, just tag your entry with “Saturday-Morning-Newgrounds” to enter.

Music must not present licensing / royalty issues. Good resources include the Audio Portal (see Creative Commons info or ask for permission), an original composition by a teammate or one of these many royalty-free resources.

Try your best to make cereal milk come out my nose, and dig deep to find Newgrounds legends gathering dust!

Woah, this seems right up my alley! I hope I can put something forth for this round.

I see what it was... I had un-bolded the name from the original doc but accidentally left half bold, so the site only converted the non-bold to a link.

BTW if anyone has been curious, this actually is a wacky coincidence that the User of the Day Script picked @BrandyBuizel today.

Round Two Judges:

@BrandyBuizel - “**** you, it’s my birthday, I’m judging ROUND 2 too.”

@el-cid - The man lives and breathes cartoons. He’s got some weird tastes and I dig it. Rodrigo here works hard and has a good eye for quality work that 6,160 fans on Newgrounds can recognize (I hope typing the actual number forces Tom to update it daily).

@IvanAlmighty - Hosted some of the largest collaborative projects on the website including the Smash Collab and the DBZ Collab a couple years back. He’s a kickass freelance animator too!

@Cymbourine - I dunno, I like her name and she said she’d do it. I think she stole it from The Adventures of Cookie & Cream video game and that’s a 10/10 guaranteed.

@AnonymousAlchemist - One of the donors to the Summer Animation Jams and suggested the original concept behind Round 2’s theme.

@jaxxy - Do you know obscure western cartoons that you won’t believe got made? She does.

@ChutneyGlaze - Created a fun, original series with Hanna-Barbera sounds alone. Currently working on Sheriff Bean.

Judges can choose to participate in a round, but they will not be considered in the rankings for that round.

Due Date:
Friday, July 23rd 11:59PM PST

Don’t be late, cause I hear @BrandyBuizel is going to be streaming your entries Saturday Morning on the Newgrounds Festivals YouTube Channel, July 24th (exact time TBD), with pajamas and creal at the ready. Happy Animating!

@Domdude111 created this awesome promo image for ROUND 2!

I can weigh in on this! Both examples are solid influences and we welcome their techniques in ROUND 2. We specify western cartoons in the rules to sidestep animators away from the homogenized anime styles that developed in the 80s and 90s. A lot of creations on the site already parody anime and we want to see something different!

Any rules against combining themes? I could see easily combining stay awake with Saturday morning cartoons, or I suppose if I just have to pick one it would just be included regardless.

ROUND 1 is over, so is that theme.

ROUND 2's theme is "Saturday Morning Cartoons"

I hope that clears things up :)

Nothing wrong with the idea of staying awake inspiring your ROUND 2 entry though!

That's pretty damn cool, I can't wait to see what people will make. If i join, (i probably will) I'll make my entry about my character Joel Taggart hunting Big Chungus, like how in Looney Tunes Elmer Fudd would try hunting Bugs Bunny.

(Also it's funny how my character's signature weapon is a double barreled shotgun, and it's the same for Elmer Fudd.)

your creepy but fun uncle, joel.

:Yo, if she knows about a lot of obscure media, then that’s sick as hell. Reminds me of My friend @Madclap25, he knows about a fuck load of obscure media, he’s perhaps one of the best experts on obscure media, certainly the best I’ve met & I have friends who know about obscure media other than him, it’s crazy because he’s younger than my other friends who know about that medium, yet he knows these things as if he’s been alive for decades.😆 So it would be neat to meet another person who knows that part of media as well, especially western. All though I’ve been in America for a long time I still am not an amazing expert on western entertainment so it’s always good to know about it & I’m all ears. I know mad would be interested to talk to somebody who knows that kind of stuff as he’s an entertainment nerd.
