How About this? I also have the idea to start a NGRB club to help rate things on Ng, and deal with future ratings issues. I will follow up this post with a link to the clubs thread and a picture of the clubs logo.

Click Here to see my idea for a rating system!

The picture in the link would just be a guide that shows what rating is for what.

Have tanks logos
First one= Green -All or General or everybody Or (word everyone cant be copyright damnit)
2nd one = Yellow-Teen user or
3rd one Red - Mature user
4th Red with nuclear smybol - Adult user
that's a pretty sweet idea, i thought about that, and i wanted to see what it would look like, it looks great
i would have to say i'm with ffextreme on this one

Damn, that's nice. Though, I'm with Tom on the first one.
HK - Has Kids looks like Hong Kong has kids.

I went with Tom's idea and made a picture... Behold... PAINT! XD

S= safe (color green, and maybe have a thumbs up)
W= warning (color yellow, and show some sort of warning symbol)
D= danger (color orange, have something like fire)
LT= life threatening (have the skull and crossbones)

He's pretty clever...

My idea is just to use numbers

1+ = Everyone
13+ = Teens
17+ = Mature
21+ = Adults only

I also think Tom's first suggestion is good

GU - General User
TU - Teen User
MU - Mature User
AU - Adult User

It's all up to him ;)

your first one is good, Tom. However, I wouldn't mind if you sent the other idea back to ESRB and see how they react ;)

Squeeky Clean - No Violence, Racism, Scary Scenes, Drugs, Swearing or Sexual Content. (Very few movies with this!)

POW - Violence
R&R - Racism and Racists
WY (Wet Yourself) - Scary Scenes
SG (Stoned Guys) - Drugs
ST (Street Talk) - Swearing
XXX - Sex

Be warned, using these Content Descriptions may result in a lawsuit from PEGI Europe, because I based these on their ones!

Just a thought:

Poke some fun at the "Homeland Security Advisory System". Also, it might be neat to make parodies of the "visual guides" at www.ready.gov to use as icons to go beside the ratings. For the official diagram of the advisory system, visit

why not make it political? something like (from lowest rating to highest):

republicans
democrats
greens
independents

and if you need a 5th you could have neo nazi or something

that way we'll stick with the whole get out and vote thing going on

How about:-

HTYO - Suitable for horny twelve year olds who spray their shorts when watching Disney films.

EGTG - Suitable for experimental goth-teen girls. The sort of girl who listens to Mr. Manson, washes in talcum powder, and is sexually attracted to the crucifix.

BFWCW - Suitable for bored fathers with crap wives. Imagine a 43 yeard old, sits down, can of Budvar - "My wife won't put out" He needs breasts and violence.

PAT - Suitable for pervs and twats only. Examples include:-
1. Animals being subjected to high levels of gamma radiation
2. Romanian child porn
3. Romanian child porn actors subjecting animals to high levels of gamma radiation.
4. Disney films.

Well after reading that message Tom Put i looked about 2 inchs away to see some put: topcatyo sez: ESRB can kiss my ass.
And i agree with that.
I dunno:
Green = E
Yellow = T
Orange = M
Red = A

Wow that was hard
It should be simply not like 20 diffrent colors like:
Blue = Could be shown in school if you are in Grade School
Light Blue = EVERYONE!
etc.
Yeah theres my opion

Dear Mr. Fulp:

It has come to our attention that Newgrounds.com is using the ā€œEā€, ā€œTā€, ā€œMā€, and ā€œAOā€ ratings in a box with tag lines, along with ratings advisories on its website, which are almost identical to the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ā€œESRBā€) game ratings and content descriptors. The ratings-in-a-box design and tag lines, and the ratings advisories, used on the website have been used without the permission or authority of the ESRB, which assigns the ratings and content descriptors, or the Entertainment Software Association (ā€œESAā€), which owns the ratings. Please be advised that the ESA owns Federal Trademarks as well as Federal Copyrights for the ESRB ratings.

We believe that the display of the ESRB ratings and designs on your companyā€™s website constitutes an infringement and dilution of our trademark rights and create a substantial likelihood of consumer confusion. We also believe the display of the ratings on the website improperly exploits the recognition value established by the ESRB. The ESRB has become the industryā€™s leading rating system and is widely recognized by public officials, educators, and public interest groups as the most effective entertainment rating system for any medium in this country today.

This matter is of serious concern to the ESA. Therefore, we write to demand that your company immediately cease and desist from any and all use of the ESRBā€™s ratings on its website. To that end, we demand that your company immediately remove the ESRBā€™s ratings from its website.

hmmmmm I would sugest them to shut the hell up I dont think you done anything wrong Tom If Im not Mistaken I think it was you Who Created the Rateing scores Rankings and Level exp for NG users and voters so I dont see you doing anything That is Breaking online Copyright Laws at all so what i think you should do is....Call them or E-Mail them and tell them to Shut The Hell Up!
LOL But hey Thats Just me,
But if they want to make a Big Case about it I'll Put on my Finest suit and Back you up in court if they Decide to Bring it to that level and I think all NG users who are willing To petition on your behalf would Prove that you Have Done no Wrong in The makeing of this sites Rateings and Submission Flaggings.
so I say Lets show these basterds what Newgrounds.com is all about and take em to school >:)

Ok, its just an idea, but i thought maybe this:
If i had to vot on an existing one, i'd say the GU,TU,MU,etc one
If i had to pick an optional theory posted here i'd say the one where Tom and Wade Fulp assert their authority by saying it was them who created this system, not the ESRB.
I'm trying to think of my own ESRB type thingy so i may post bak in a while.

To Tom and Wade;

ASSERT YOUR AUTHORITY ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Replace "Everyone" with "Kids to Adults", or K-A. That would probably piss off ESRB because they used to use that, but since they no longer do, I doubt it is registered any longer with them. It would be a neat "Fuck You" to copy them all over again.

For the record, we did write the tagline material ourselves. Any similarity to ESRB taglines is merely due to the banality of the criteria. I'm sure they closely resemble MPAA (movie ratings) taglines as well - perhaps the ESRB should be expecting a letter from MPAA lawyers.

I figured I would open the floor for suggestions. Here is your chance to NAME OUR RATINGS!!! Respond to this post with your recommendations!

My reccomendation:
General= Elementary School (ES)
Teen= Junior High (JH)
Mature= High School (HS)
Adults Only= College & Beyond (CB)

Response to ESRB Headache 2004-07-08 14:11:44

I like the first set. It's kind of like the system now with a more spiteful and mocking tone towards ESRB.

Got One! How about: =
A is for Anyone (Is perfectly fine)
YA is for Young Adult (has Mild Violence & Bad Language)
G is for Grown (Lots of Violence, Mild Killing, Bad Language & Mild Nudity, Adult Themes)
X is for Extreme (Loads of Killing, Crude Language, Nudity, and Adult Themes)?

And you can add a pie chart type of thing to show how much of what is in it?\
I like, piiiieeeā€¦.

F- For Anyone
U- Under Excessive
C- Cautious
K- Kids Beware!

Haha, just kidding (try to find the message in that)

OK, this is what I really think

A- Appropriate or CF- Child Friendly
YA- Young Adult
18+- Speaks for itself
EC- Extreme Content or OE- Overly Excessive

You know you could likely just change the "E" to a "G" and neither group could whine since there's been more than a 30% change from the original. It would be a nice happy middle finger to ESRB too.
