You know, it's been too long!
We all been locked down, bummed out, and with far too much time on our hands to binge watch the entirety of Star Trek...so you know...we need another Singalong! If you have a mic, and can add a voice or instrument to the track, this project is for you! It is an unpaid fun project, but if the history of singalongs is any indication, the results will be amazing!
I've chosen the song "Drive" by Incubus, mainly on the basis that I figured out a pretty good way to play it on guitar, and it's catchy, with lots of harmonies, and a space to solo! It's in Em, 80bpm.
I would like to personally thank @metalrenard for offering to do probably the most labour-intensive part of this whole thing: mixing it together! I couldn't do nearly as good of a job without him!
THE RULES:
- Download the provided sample backtrack, load it into your DAW, and record a track to send back to us. There is no limit on the number of tracks you can provide, but keep in mind that we will keep/discard with only one thing in mind: what is best for the song. If you send us 200 vocal tracks, the simple reality is that some will be cut.
- If you are adding an instrument, the requirement is that it be live-played! Don't make a computer do your work for you! Pick up a banjo! Or a Bongo! Or whatever! Even if you think you don't play an instrument...you totally do! A chopstick on the bottom of a frying pan makes a pretty good hi-hat!
- Harmonies and solos are totally welcome!
SOME ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Absolute must:
- Export the file from the start of the song so it can slot into the project perfectly without searching for the start point. This will save so much time. :)
- Have fun!
Not absolute requirements but the closer to this you can get the better:
- 44khz minimum sample rate, 48khz is better.
- Uncompressed file type, for example wave, aiff. No mp3s please! They loose lots of high frequency data and add unwanted distortion.
- Try to reduce room echo. You can put pillows or blankets around where you record.
- Do not over-saturate your microphone, this causes distortion that cannot be fixed in post. Your recording should never show a red meter and the waveform of the audio should show natural peaks. If it looks flat, it may be you are being too loud for your mic to cope.
When you have your recording ready to submit, you can PM the file transfer link to either myself, or @metalrenard to be included in the mix! While there is no set time limit, the project tends to fill up within a week or so, and we will let you know when it's sounding baller enough to call finished!
If you're interested, please message this thread back, and give us an idea of what parts you will be adding! On the backtrack, we have provided a sample vocal (bad, but will be replaced) to guide you in the rhythms, a rhythm guitar, bass guitar, and temporary drum track. Any or all of those will be replaced or modified, so if you play bass better than I do, feel free to do so! The drum track is artificial, so it will not be included in the final project...we need percussion!

Thanks to all who join us in this little fun project!
