Newgrounds turned 25 this week and to celebrate, Luis is giving away some NG stuff from his vault. To enter, simply reply to his blog post with a happy NG memory.

25 years is a long time to be on the web but there’s still much to do, so on we go!

June was one heckuva month, probably the biggest month for animation in the history of NG. Winners of our Musk Jam and Persona 4 Art Jam have already been announced, leaving us with the overall Best of June:

Top Five Animation

The top-ranked animation based on original material and winner of $250 is Breaking up with Adobe, congrats @JamesLee! We debated whether “Adobe” counts as an original character but since it’s a unique personification of the brand it got a pass in this case.

Speaking of Adobe, I was interviewed by Ars Technica on the Rise and Fall of Flash.

The voter of the month and winner of honorary Supporter status is @Toocool100!

Thank you everyone who participated in June, it was a stellar month worth celebrating!

I made a June Playlist Part 1 and Part 2 with songs I enjoyed. I’ve also been maintaining a Short Shorts 2020 playlist to highlight short cartoons, something that will be especially fun when playlists update to include autoplay video.

For some of the best Art of June, here is the Featured Art from June, ranked by score.

Ongoing Events

The Newgrounds Audio Deathmatch audition round is in progress. The prize pool is currently over $400 and open to donations for more!

The Music Inspired Art contest challenges you to create art inspired by a song from the Audio Portal. The prize pool is over $300 and open to donations as well!

The Sketch Collab 2020 is open for entries. Check out the 2019 edition to get a feel for it.

Game Prizes

We’ve been talking about hosting a big game jam for a while but are also thinking about attempting to bring back cash prizes for the best games each month. If we had a game prize fund, is that something you’d be interested in donating towards? We’re working on a system to award sponsor badges to people who support individual events, to spice things up.

Yes, I would be interested in donating. Doing bigger projects makes me feel like I can't contribute any actual content to the site but donating to prize pools allows me to help out. I want to see the same energy that went towards the Musk Jam go toward Game jams... and hopefully all Jams.

Thank you so much!! Very happy that my short made it! Thank you!

Definitely an amazing month for animations and art; if I wasn't so entrenched with games I would've definitely thrown some votes over to animations like Millennium Hour, gosh! But NG games weren't no slouch either this month: we've got some great regulars coming in as usual, as well as promising newbies! A game jam or just game event in general sounds like it would be really cool: we've gone back to the usual amount of game submissions around 30 per month, but I guess I'll get really for another flood of games when it comes around!

Cool article about the fall of Flash. I've slowly been moving over to other platforms like Unity because of that, but gosh, while I did have some issues with Flash, nothing beat how easy it was to do both art and code in one program, instead of having to rely on separate programs to do each and then combine them. Flash really made it easy to do small tweaks here-and-there to the art immediately so that character animations and such could get really smooth like you wanted.

It's a good idea - prizes for best games. Now that Kong is dead and they stopped their monthly prizes. There are many young developers who'd love to earn some cash.

I don't know about others here, but for me increasing Supporter price or making it 2-tier could help with funds.

Thank you everyone who voted for First Job! It's a very strange year 2020 for me, the pure essence of "the best of times and the worst of times". I'm glad to see the competition was good. Kinda sad that my both 2 duck picks didn't place. :(

I hope now with Kong dead, we will see a spike in creativity here!

very cool to see the top 5 is all original content - even if mine is ancient history by internet standards. and each one is so different from the other not only in subject matter but also style.

Congrats to the winners, and happy 25th anniversary to Newgrounds! July 7th is the day in 1995 it launched, right? That's at least what I heard earlier today.

I'm quite happy with both the animation winners and the game winners this time.

And since you linked to that rise and fall of Flash article, I'd like to mention that I spent some time putting together a collection of Flash games from over the years to celebrate Flash from my own perspective as a Flash game developer: https://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1449007
