Flash Emulation Update
We're running an increasing amount of Flash content via Ruffle, the open-source emulator created by @Mike. You can sponsor it on Github! Newgrounds is a Diamond sponsor and we intend to see Ruffle all the way through to full Flash emulation.
At the moment, Ruffle can run a lot of animated content and some AS2 games. Long-term the goal is to run AS3 games as well, at which point every Flash ever uploaded to NG should continue to work in browsers, forever. Alien Hominid is currently running via Ruffle! You’ll notice the lives count is missing but eventually it won’t be and eventually it will be running with WebGL and maybe even gamepad support.
If you’d like to join the fun, we have a Reliving Old Flash with Ruffle thread in the forums. We’ve activated Ruffle on a lot of old content and it might not be working with some; it would be a great help if you report any issues you find! When you see people talking about how Flash will die this year, make sure they know NG has both a desktop player AND growing support for in-browser emulation, not to mention a ton of content that doesn't require Flash in the first place! We really need your help here; this is a daily battle to get the word out.
Supporter Update
As many of you have noticed, NG is working towards becoming ad-free. For this to succeed, we need to maintain steady growth in our Supporter numbers month after month and complacency will result in the return of ads. While any support is greatly appreciated, recurring subscriptions are extremely helpful for sustained growth.
Thank you everyone who has helped so far; I think we can all agree that NG is better being ad-free for everyone. Seriously, after 20+ years of depending on ads, wouldn’t it be great if NG didn’t have to do that anymore? If you have friends who are oldschool NG fans, hit them up to chip in three bucks a month. They’ll be preserving a large chunk of Internet history while making a better home for future artists.
