gonna try to get some decent photos of my home setup later! (spoilers: it's not as neat and tidy as this lol)

so that's the recording studio i manage for a local music mentoring charity - we do plenty of public bookings but our setup is minimal so it's mostly for tracking and pre-prod. a lot of what i do is running workshops with young people, and recently more of the youth support work now. finally putting the 4 years i spent getting my psychology degree to good use lmao
this is the setup at home, a little more modest i know haha

My first studio was nothing more than a falling apart laptop with the screen hinges giving way and keyboard almost ripping off the surface. I know what it feels like.
You will build and move to better things. Give it time.
Ik but first I will save up for better speakers

Ayyy nice, how are you finding the A77X's to be for day-to-day use? Still using my A5X's, but I've been eyeing up the A77X's for awhile now haha

Even the home setup there is in a nice, tight, well-put-together space. Gear-wise, quality over quantity!
Also, the job sounds really cool. Having a professional studio space (I'll consider anything that that doesn't sport perpendicular walls) where you're not having to perpetually chase client work to keep the lights on is an enviable spot. Cheers to that!

honestly can't really recommend them for mixing. super clear and detailed sound for sure but way too hyped in the high end imo, hence looking for a second reference pair. the adams are fantastic for tracking since almost anything will sound great straight away, and clients love that :D

I've done a bit of work in my recording room. I won't do it the justice of being called a "studio," really.

Actually running FL through bootcamp - Had my iMac before FL was compatible with osx and stuck with it!

oh sweet! i've been running it natively at work and it's mostly been stable for the last couple versions. still crashes on certain combinations of 3rd party plugins but works well otherwise. if you're only booting into windows for FL you should give the native version a go, unless you desperately want to stick to an older version.
I am still building mine. 😂 Anyways. Ignore that wall. I rescue animals when I can and one I recentlt rescued thought my walls were tasty.
Here's a pic of my studio :) it took me years to save up and buy it all. The e-drums are a gift from a friend. The Middle picture is from a show I played at a record store.

my home setup is a little under 2000AUD. the 2i2 is second hand but a new one wouldn't push it over 2k
the setup at work is another story though:
uad apollo 8p
audient asp880
adam a77x monitors
komplete kontrol s88
full-spec 2016 imac pro w/ logic
about 15k AUD for all that, but i didn't have to pay for it lol. then there's the microphones & other gear but i cba listing it all.
EDIT: this is actually quite cheap as far as gear for professional studios goes - we're running almost entirely in the box with UAD plugins so we haven't had to spend money on extra outboard stuff, which is the real wallet killer.

Your studio doesn't look so bad. I like your guitars. Good quality equipment helps, but it doesn't make your songs automatically sound good. Skill and creativity are more important. Just make music and you'll find find out out what's most important to invest in to expand your studio gradually.
I don't have a microphone stand either. I record my lyrics underneath a blanket with a microphone in my hand. I wish I had about $5000 to spend on high quality orchestral sample libraries that sound convincingly realistic. That stuff is expensive. Instead I stick to lo-fi music like chip-tune, vst emulations of 80's synths, samples of the Mellotron and the Fairlight, etc. It's tempting to think music would sound better with more expensive equipment, but I've already invested a lot, and use only halve of what I have. Using what I have more effectively would be a better solution.
Made some updates to the workspace. Kickin it oldschool with dual 5:4 displays.
Literally my actual setup. Been recording like this since 2010.
I am not a rich man. I guess my recordings do sound how they look :^)

Uhhhh. All I can say you do like your alcohol. Lol
here is my baby, this picture is quite old, but I added only two rokit 6s I like keeping my studio more like living room, not like working environment.

Seems nice but honestly you should get a higher desk because that is not good for your back. Just like how I need an office chair because a stool is not good for my back either. My back be hurting. 😂

Thanks! It's an ikea cabinet modified with rails, filled with DIY modules based on circuit designs from musicfromouterspace.com, birthofasynth.com and my own designs. Prototyped on breadboard, designed and assembled my own circuit boards and front panels. :) A lot of it is a bit amateurish with lots of mistakes (particularly behind the panels), so the setup has a lot of issues, but it's fun to play with.
