Article 13, aka “the meme ban”, greatly increases the liability involved with hosting user-uploaded content. Websites are expected to implement filtering software to check uploads against copyright databases. Access to the technology is expensive, however and sites like Newgrounds can’t afford it.

As a result, we are now blocking all content on the site until we confirm that a user is not visiting from the European Union. You’ll have to complete the verification process the first time you try to view content here, or you can do it right now.

A cookie will be set in your browser so that you only have to do it once. We've made sure to warn everyone that Newgrounds uses cookies. The EU does such a great job protecting their citizens from the real dangers in the world!

For everyone not in the EU, sorry for the inconvenience! If you are visiting from the EU, sorry you can no longer enjoy all the cool content on Newgrounds. Keep this in mind next time it’s your turn to vote!

NOTE: If you move, you can re-take the validation process as needed.

Nice meme Tom. That survey was painful. Having to approve daft things like weird spellings and coffee with donuts.

“Enough MEPs Say They Mistakenly Voted For Articles 11 & 13 That The Vote Should Have Flipped; EU Parliament Says Too Bad.
What happened was that in the middle of a sitting meeting, it was decided to make an adjustment in the order of voting in itself. This did not appear in a clear way where the President was also somewhat confused.”

I get that it's a joke and I like the idea, but why just a cookie and not also an account flag for passing the quiz? Those of us who clear or don't save cookies have to do this test over again even if we log in. Also, a test that requires getting every single question right is too harsh. Getting most or over half of them right should be enough to pass.

The survey answers were pretty humorous. Does make me wonder how Europeans on this site feel about reading those answer choices, though.

I'm in the small baby minority, because I feel like Article 13 isn't gonna be nearly as ass-destroying as it's being hyped up to be. It's not a set law, it's more like a guideline for countries to do whatever they want with. So it'll be barely noticeable in some countries, like Sweden, Germany, Poland or Finland, and a police state hellhole in the next, potentially someplace like France or Hungary, but just the potential for it to be turned into a police state makes me believe this shit won't stick to the toilet. Most balding politicians know that hellfire and angry responses don't look good on their resume.

Everything's gonna be fine. I'm way more concerned with the UK debating on banning porn.

It's interesting how the UK pivoted from daily topless pics in their most popular newspaper to trying to eradicate porn. What happened over the past five years there?

I think a lot of the other political shenanigans going on there over the last few years (and far more recently) made the British government go absolutely loco, but it's been a topic of debate for a few years, mostly within England. It's never been seriously considered up until now, though. I don't get it either.

I am from EU and have been a supporter and Newgrounds. This will stop now with you strange way to address a democratic and to many very sound and sober approach to protect legal and intellectual property. I think you attitude demonstrate that you do not care. I am quite sure no European authority would make any unjustified claims or charges to your site as long as you demonstrate some effort and willingness to cooperate on protecting intellectual rights.

As you site actually thrive from people who aspire to make a living of their and thus would benefit from protection of their IP it seem to me that your take on this issue is in direct conflict with the interests with all your clients and direct supporters.

What if Europeans did as you do. My app was banned from an American company Google Play store just because another American company Atari made the claim that the name Asteroid Challenge was an infringement of their right to the name Asteroids. Without warning my app was removed and I was in no way allowed to make my case or let the court have a say - simply because two large American companies decided my app was in the way. Did I block all Americans? Did I ignore all American companies? No I did not. Even with this unfair treatment I still believe America (as well as Europe) is a great place.

Best of luck - "America first" - just keep to yourself and mind your own business.

I hope these words even if harsh will help you to realise how single minded and discriminate you behave ...

@TomFulp

I thought people were phasing out april fools on the internet hah

I liked the googlemaps dragonquest from a few years back because it didn't leave their site inoperable.

I had to answer like a true american to get past the filter

This was kind of corny (Finalizing, final finalizing, etc) but I really appreciate the effort.

I still know very little about whats going on with the EU filtering copyrights, or how that would effect me tbh.

This was one for the books for sure. I was laughing my ass off already at the very-American answers...but then the FINAL COUNTDOWN reference, a song, funnily enough by a band called Europe, at the end of the questionnaire completely split my sides.

@TomFulp Still...I was a bit concerned that this might've been a slightly more tedious April Fool's prank for the new user-base since the big tumblr influx and all...folks might not immediately get it and it could be a lot more annoying & confusing than fun. Now, personally, I LOVED IT and I suppose it's too late for this concern now anyway, but something to consider for next year? It's so easy to turn people off from this site & so hard to get 'em hyped for it in the first place. Oof.

I had pointed an artist I really love in NG's direction when they were trying to decide between Twitter n' Instagram, and

they were considering it, but then I actually got on NG myself and despite having a big laugh, realized I had to clue 'em in. For better or worse...other sites just don't do awesome stuff like this & it's a bit confusing for the new users.

Maybe there should be an automated starter PM for new users that describes some of NG's quirks n' all to them?

Just some dork who's loved NG since 2004, yet isn't very artistic himself. You should check out my massive favorites lists.

Personally: entertained, though wouldn't have minded some options making fun of the other side too. As usual America somehow always ends up coming across as the cooler alternative. Ah well. It's HQ land. With that inevitable at least always partially patriotic mindset. Angle acceptable.
