It's good to see Newgrounds running strong, but I have concerns.
As the outrage mobs clamor to get controversial topics off the "MainWeb", and BigTech conspires to destroy its competition through myriad means, is Newgrounds ready to face these upcoming challenges?
Is the Newgrounds team ready for the imminent uphill climb that this Orwellian future poses? Ready to stick to its original principles? To not only protect its People, but to protect its Brand?
Surely Tom is also aware of the legal issues presented to Tumblr (FOSTA/CESTA), and while I doubt people will be drawn to Newgrounds to engage in sex-work, one must still be vigilant for looming legal threats(weaponized by the anti-free expression mobs or otherwise) to destroying the hard work that has gone into this platform.
Payment Processors are another concern. I am not too learned on Newgrounds's relationship with PayPal, but we have seen in recent months that PayPal is not our friend, either.
There is no telling what otherwise perfectly acceptable content hosted on this site will be dredged up and paraded around by the anti-American media(as I see it) as something to use against this site and its ability to function as that which we know and love today.
New technology is surfacing and becoming more and more utilized (such as Blockchain) and newer, bolder sites are coming into their own (such as Gab.ai) in order to combat Orwell's future and combat BigTech, but I must wonder what technologies and methods Newgrounds has in the works. I am, myself, trying to understand Cryptocurrencies in order to start using them, and the more I learn the more I am seeing that the websites of today may benefit in the future through some similar technology, which, at least in theory, will be the ultimate shields against the kind of takedown attacks we are seeing today.
I've been a supporter and admirer of this site for some time, and I will continue to do so while I believe the community and its leaders are willing to stand together against what I see is an imminent existential threat to this site, its users(some of whom depend on a reliable platform to make a living), and the foundational principles that had allowed it to exist in the first place.
Regards,
