Newgrounds has been experiencing a huge influx of artists from Tumblr this week and it's been mind-blowing.

Please read this welcome post if you are new here!

Also consider becoming a supporter! The outpouring of support from new people this week has been like nothing we've ever seen before. It is seriously game-changing and I can't thank you enough for it.

This week we raised the tag limit to 12 tags and the daily art limit to 50 pieces. Bigger things in the works!

If you aren't too familiar with NG, I updated the history and it goes right up to this week.

Each month on Newgrounds, a pool of active voters are invited to rank their favorite games and animation. Those selections determine our Best of the Month and will ideally include Art and Audio some day.

What is happening on Newgrounds at the moment is special and it's difficult to even predict what the long-term impact will be. We've had surges of interest over the years and I know to manage my expectations but this feels different. THOUSANDS of REALLY TALENTED artists have joined up over the past two weeks and I know not everyone will stick around but I hope most of you do!

A lot of people have asked about a Literature Portal this week. Right now the Writing Forum is your best option and it will get better with the impending forum update. A Lit Portal HAS been a plan for a long time now; other projects remain ahead in priority (namely a lot of Art Portal / feed updates) but we're holding on to hope for the future.

The Community News is an often overlooked page that has been swarming with posts lately. Go say hi to some people and welcome them to the site!

Yeah that has been a fun update today, it actually encourages me to vote on even more stuff now.

It'll also prevent users from trying to balance it out when an artist gives themself a 5 for their work!

Something about voting though, something needs to be done for the other portals which are rapidly getting less and less votes(72 stuck in under judgment the other day)

The game/movie portal had an influx of Ludum Dare games + tons of adult loops this week so that caused a lot of the judgment backlog, seems to be smoothening out now.

The writing portal makes me squeal with excitement. I know it's something extremely simple, but the addition to a writing portal may kick me out of my slump and get back to writing that novel I've been thinking about for years.

The story goes, I once wrote about 100 pages of a novel back in my college years. I never backed it up and lost everything when my computer crashed. Sadly, I'm not financial able to purchase a new computer. I only use my work computer M-F and haven't owned a computer for about 10 years now. (The reason I went inactive from newgrounds for a long time)

I have wrote multiple short pieces by paper, but a new computer and a new reason to write might be exactly what I need to change things.

I am very interested in the the writing portal finally become real. I had have discussions about it in the past. I will check it out first and things how it looks. It could really bring a new dimension to NewGrounds.

Gotta keep grinding away with that EXP now. Don't think I've missed any yet... this stream of new content's really been keeping me on NG way more than usual the last few days. Feels just like the old days just not being able to keep up with all the new content that's streaming in. Good times!

Muting on a sitewide scale is something we still need to tackle... So at the moment:

1) You can BLOCK a user, which hides their posts in the forum, doesn't let them PM you, doesn't let them reply to your blog posts, and a few other things like that. It doesn't hide their content in the portals and I imagine people would want something more gentle like a "Mute" vs outright blocking some artists. A Block could also mute by default though.

2) You CAN mute a user who you follow or are friends with but it only applies to your feed. So for example if you're friends with someone who makes bad music, when you see their music in your feed, click the GEAR icon to bring up your options. You can choose to Hide ALL of their activity in your feed, or just Hide their MUSIC activity in your feed.

The final ultimate frontier is global muting, which would hide someone's content throughout the site. This is probably a bigger priority in the Art Portal than elsewhere and I have no clue how far out it is... At some point the Art Portal browsing will be powered by our Elastic cluster, which makes filtering like that work better.

there are plenty of great artists with really high quality stuff and they have bringed newgrounds back to the forefront of the internet for a change (something that hasnt happened in like 12 years) so yeah, this is literaly one of the best things that have happened to the site for a long time

That's a damn good Top 5 right there. I love how the first two winning movies are actual originals! The past few weeks were pretty exciting indeed, I do hope those artists are planning to stay! The twitter memes spawned by this whole tumblr debacle were a good laugh and it undoubtedly helped promote Newgrounds on the side. Oh, and I did find some underrated movies while doing my monthly voting :)

im a LONG TIME lurker of the site, i used to have an account back in2012 but i forgot the pasword, iseriously love this site and seeing the influx of new great artists pummped me on to create a new account to be able of participate in this new golden age

Not really coming from Tumblr (since I don't have any audience there), but I wanted a better place to post my artworks.

So far I'm slowly figuring out how to build my presence around here but it's been good to explore. The layout is pretty neat, forums are a very useful tool to discuss art related stuff even if you don't have much popularity. Also at the moment my art is getting even more attention than any other art community like DeviantArt/Pixiv. The system of getting scouted to get into the Art Portal still bugs me a little, but it's working out. So far, so good :D

Just a doubt: Once someone scout me I'll be able to post in the Art Portal forever? Or I'll need to be scouted several times?

Yo @Mel-Agaroth-Xilliam, what's all this malice? Tumblr may have a bad name but I've seen a bunch of really great artists arrive here that simply deserve recognition. Scrap ideology, tumblr was merely a tool for creators and now it's become useless to them. If these artists were to flourish anywhere, I would want it to be here on Newgrounds. You think a handful of tumblr users will rock the boat? I don't think so. Newgrounds has always thrived on controversy. In the end new users get to decide whether they like this place or not. If they hate it here, they'll just get up and leave. I will say this: by telling newcomers to to fuck off you're doing Newgrounds a huge disfavor. At least give these people a chance man.

If I understood correctly, Scouting is a branching system. Let's say for instance I scouted you and someone else, and as a scouted artist you scouted two more people. If the other person I scouted does something and got their scout status revoked, my own scout would be revoked for being the one "responsible" for the transgressor, and as consequence you and the other two people you scouted would lose your scouted status due to being "under" me. Like snipping a branch from a tree, its leaves fall with it.

this is correct. and for those of us who are scouted, especially during this massive influx period, its probably a good idea to poke around the unscouted submissions a decent bit and use at least one a day for a while to make sure everyone with quality to deserve it can get in.
