I made like two Clock Crew flash movies on my old account, but now I'm kinda tempted to get back into animating in Flash. I know Flash is going to be dead in 2 years, but that's why I have Swivel.

Flash is still fine tool for making animations, just not for plsying them on web.

Animate in flash, and export as a video file instead of .flv

Newgrounds released a tool if there are any other flash animators that want their swf converted to video. If anyone else uses some of the older flash verions to animate like Macromedia 8 I highly recommend it.

But Tooom, the old one was so much cooler, with all the metallic stuff! I don't wanna lose the badass Madness grunt at the bottom forever either! Could you please just make it an option for the old layout to be used? Maybe on Pico Day you could switch it back to that layout as a little treat?

I second this. While change is welcome, please don't fall prey to this "flat" craze that a whole bunch of logos and sites have been doing.

But adult stuff is hidden by default. Content ratings. Enable that one particular one and there'll be a treasure trove waiting for those who want it. ;) But those who don't shouldn't be bombarded by it. There seems to be a lot of SFW stuff too... not a lot compared to the other category but still, more than before...

Speaking of that: what we really need here is a good introduction thing. This place is big. Some quick instructions when you sign up, or when you visit certain areas for the first time would be nice. A bit of an interactive guide that you don't really have to read though. All the info's in the Wiki but it is a lot to read up on.

If the trickster doesn't know something feel free to ask me too btw. We're always happy to help.

Yeah it doesn't matter so much what program you use as the final format you use, though they did change the name on the newer versions. I know I'll be using Flash way past 2020 though. :)

Welp, now that rant is over. Now'st he time for me to say, hello everyone! Hope you have a wonderful day! :D

The feed page (the non pop-over version) is still stuck with the old layout, but once it's overhauled like the rest then notifications should appear instantly. Maybe not in the feed but at least with a little alert that you have new feed items. It works like that on all the newer pages currently.

Mutilation comes to mind. :) Well there doesn't seem to be anything strictly not allowed, but extreme fetishes may not catch as big an audience, or catch some unwanted critique (never mind those though). If you want to avoid the latter it's always good to be specific with the titles if you're posting something some people really won't want to see. Like: Title [INSERT WEIRD FETISH NAME HERE]

Overall though, if not mentioned in the rules: anything goes!

At 12/4/18 12:02 AM, ladysketchly wrote: Hi. I feel silly asking this. How do you get a scout once you post four art pieces?

Scouted artists can see unscouted art too, and there's usually always a few people monitoring that section; keeping an eye out for talent they might have the honor of recruiting. If you're making good art just sit back and wait for the invites to stream in. :) Though it seems you've been initiated already!

Here's some more info on the scouting process though for anyone who read this/wants to know: https://ornery.newgrounds.com/news/post/388624

At 12/3/18 08:28 PM, SoubriquetRouge wrote: So, the question i have is that is that acceptable for me to post as art here? Obviously on any such post I would credit and link back to where the artist can be found, on Newgrounds first if they are here, and otherwise another place they can be found.

If they give you permission, that should be alright. Commissions were another area that wasn't as common here before this migration, but generally I'd think you still need to either post original work, or have permission to post the other artist's work if it's not entirely original.

There's probably a lot of work here based off other people's designs though, the ones that come to mind are ones for contests with Draw With Jazza, and those are certainly OK. If the original image allows for derivative transformations that should be alright too. Hope that answers your wonders?

Basically: very similar as to the rules with commissions.

Sketch or newspost. :) Work without all original content (if it's the kind of content you didn't have permission to use) might get taken down if they're submitted as art though. Memes are great but since they usually include some photos the user might not have rights to use than it makes for trouble there.

No, not that I am aware of. There is however a "Always appear offline" option... Any thread you make will end up on the front page of the Community section.

Just have to note: making a thread won't really push it to the front page of the community section, the content you see there is geared towards you specifically so you'll usually see threads you've made or posted in, or in lack of those: the more popular ones in general. Definitely good to stay away from forums or news posts if you really want to keep a low profile though, though why you'd want to do that...

That would be pretty useful! Some comics probably still won't fit well as just one submission, but divided by chapter, or season, or just grouped whenever relevant... would be pretty helpful. Could be a good way to include alternations of the same image on the same page too some times.

Does this include something visible in the title bar/tab, or just a sort of flash (and a number in the "notifications") as it was with this forum reply of yours?

While on the subject of forums, how about having the information currently only visible at the top (thread name, reply to topic, forum index link) visible at the bottom as well?

Also, I noticed that the forum jumplist(?) doesn't show the currently viewed forum - Would it be possible to add it in there (possibly with some sort of indicator to tell you that "you are here"), so that you can see what category the current forum belongs to without having to switch to a different forum?

Just joined looking for alternatives to tumblr, this community seems pretty nice! The ability to upload games is what I'm probably gonna look into here - need to learn my way around though haha. I learnt about newgrounds through twitter, so if my blog gets taken down (tumblr is flagging perfectly innocent sfw posts left and right #GreatWebDesign, but I'm not deleting my tumblr yet) I'll most likely be spending most of my time on twitter and here. Such a shame that they're doing this though, so many artists are gonna lose commissions :(

Haha, if only their bot flagged the right images.
SFW artists are getting pelted too.

Secondly, their wording is somewhat vague on other kind of porn besides real life humans.

It's not vague actually. Not sure why people have troubles with it.
Literal quote from the TOS "Don’t upload any content, including images, videos, GIFs, or illustrations, that depicts sex acts."
Only thing that allowed is "artful" erotic which is vague. With all this "female presenting nipples" I imagine most drawings are not gonna be considered as art.

Even though I made this account during the first wave, I'm planning to jump ship completely with the recent news. I have a concern however, I'm a writer first and foremost. Even though I also dabble in music and voice acting, I would love to post my stories or any other stuff like scripts etc on here. Would that ever be a feature? I have friends who are willing to migrate here who are also writers that are looking for a home after Tumblr fucked up.

That being said, I feel so welcomed here and can't wait for my laptop to get fixed so I can post some of my work here for y'all.

I'm just here because I like being here.

For now the Writing Forum and blogs will be the best place to share writing. The Writing Forum should be considerably nicer after our forum update, too. A lot of pieces are falling into place for the Lit Portal to finally happen but we have a lot of Art Portal / Project System updates to tackle so it's gonna be staying on the shelf a while longer.

lmao i knew it. i knew they were gonna do it. thats what happens when big corporations like yahoo pick up social platforms like that. rather than properly addressing the really pervasive nuanced issue the site was having with 18+, like prawnbots and underage trafficking rings, theyd rather just put a pox on everyones houses to keep it Friendly(tm) enough for the app stores and easy ad revenue. rip in peace tumblr

i guess that's something ive always respected about NG, you guys have kept the place's lights on for decades with ad revenue and community support alone, and it really shows the place is a labor of love over profit. already been here a lil bit but enjoying my time so far.

Hey,
I am Balkazzaar. Just moved here from Tumblr before it goes up in flames. Thank you for all your graciousness. I am more of silent passenger/admirer of artworks that can be 3d or non 3d. It could be anything. Not very picky when it comes to good artwork, be it NSFW or otherwise.
Nice to meet you all. Hope it will be a pleasant and long stay here.

Thanks

Kinda glad I decided to move here, as I still have a bunch of artwork I wanted to post that are NSFW. Tried Hentai Foundry, but they rejected some of the art I tried submitting and twitter's image quality is worse than tumblr's. At least this site retain the original image quality.

I think that'd class as 'scene creator' stuff, so no, generally no. Not unless you have permission to use them or they happen to be licensed in such a way that it's OK (I guess abandonware would be alright too, since it falls into the public domain). There may be exceptions floating around but there is a chance they'll get taken down eventually. If you don't want to risk it best stick to original or permissible stuff.

Probably just that flash. Were you thinking of a title bar/tab notification earlier? I'm not sure that's even been talked about before. Could be interesting too.

Yes, something similar to what Twitter and Tumblr (probably other sites as well) do - showing the number of new things in the title bar/tab, or even just a symbol or somesuch to depict the presence of new notifications.

While on the subject of forums, how about having the information currently only visible at the top (thread name, reply to topic, forum index link) visible at the bottom as well?
Seems strange with a title at the bottom of a page IMO, but a reply button would definitely be useful, agreed.

Some part of the title-at-the-bottom addition was "why not, since everything else would be nice down there as well", while another part was "that's how all the other places do it" - but on further examination the presence of the thread title in every reply (and the title bar) may be sufficient.

Also, I noticed that the forum jumplist(?) doesn't show the currently viewed forum - Would it be possible to add it in there (possibly with some sort of indicator to tell you that "you are here"), so that you can see what category the current forum belongs to without having to switch to a different forum?
