Something that I'm worried about and I'm sure that's why many artist were using tumblr and pixiv (sadly pixiv requires censorship) for such reason, is about uploading many pieces in one single post, they really like that feature, for example one work with many variations (you know the ones), comic type or sketch dumps that you could arrange in many ways, but I can't see how to do it here, like I can only upload one file so I would need to put all the pictures together as one or something like that?

Anyway, I think there will be a lot of demand for such thing.

New Grounds is about to be BURIED in porn art. Careful what you ask for...

E.g. you start typing "Princess" and before you've even finished the word, the system auto-suggests "Princess_Peach (4297)" or other various princesses.

Right now the tags feel very unorganised and vary from person to person. This can be hell when it comes to characters like Tali from Mass Effect. One guys puts Tali, another puts Tali'Zorah, another puts Tali'Zorah_Nar_Rayya, and another dude puts Tali'Zorah_Vas_Normandy.
I agree, I wish to see artwork from unscouted artists in the tags as well instead of browing through the unscouted portal to look for the art you want to see.

Definitely include everybody in the tags too, especially with so many artists moving over as Newgrounds virgins.

Also because the edit didn't carry over from my first post - Please increase or even remove the tag limit on artworks.

Are we able to post fanfiction here, too?

If not I think it ought to be added. People who do fics in addition to art will be moving here too

There sadly isn't a dedicated writing section, yet. but you can post story's in the form of a blog post in your news feed. Like Fro said the writing forums are also a good place for it too. Hope that helps.

A thought that occurred to me that we probably shouldn't even be thinking about right now is, does this mean more IRL meet-ups happening again? Not full-blown meet-ups, but like maybe twice or once a year things near Philly. I remember going to the theater near NG HQ and having a blast with new and old artists alike, and was wondering if we should start planning those again.

There's some things I wish to cover before getting into my concerns. First of all, I'm glad this is one of the platforms that many tumblr artists are moving to.

Now let's clear some things up:
Tumblr's harsh decision is not out of the blue and not unexpected. For years they had been struggling to control the content that violated their terms. What does this mean? Quite simply, tumblr was becoming the go-to place outside of the darkweb to deal with illegal content. First and foremost, this included unvetted minors who were "exposing" themself, and the straight up circulation of nude images and pornography of minors.

It was becoming apparent that when you went to a blog that dealt with "teen" porn, it was very questionable how many of the youth were legal. In addition, checking the "likes" of several of these blogs revealed that they were genuinely interested in actual minors. It didn't take much digging to figure this out, and you could come across this unknowingly. I'd also like to note that this includes drawings of youth(namely "Lolicon"), which may or may not have been more common. It wasn't allowed to begin with. So its become clear that their solution is to remove all doubt and disallow all adult content so they don't have to hire dozens of employees to *try* and filter through all the explicit content.

Understandably, NG does not have a problem with such kinds of content and outright destroys it if it comes up. Tumblr is a very "free flowing" kind of website and controlling that sort of thing is obviously a challenge. The website itself is simple to use and any "popular" content is easily redistributed very quickly.

As an aside, many believe that the "porn bots" were the problem. I believe they were the tipping point(many minors used tumblr, porn bots interact with any post that becomes popular, you can figure out the rest) and probably resulted in pushing for the app to being removed outright from Apple.

Now, here are my concerns.

As mentioned before, tumblr is very quick to use and served a different function than what NG does. What worries me is how NG will compare for these artists. Just from what I can see, tumblr had the upper hand in that adult content was less curated and more "fair". Posting it consistently and as a group of images seems more difficult here as well. As mentioned previously in this thread it's unlikely that NG will undergo any major changes to accommodate the plethora of new artists.

So I guess my question is, what advantage does NG have over other websites like Pixiv? Nothing quite compares to tumblr and the easy exposure and "consumer" interaction you could gain through it.

As another aside, I'd like to state that this is a throwaway account. This isn't stuff I'd prefer to associate my main with.

At 12/3/18 05:38 PM, Jared-X wrote: Nothing quite compares to tumblr and the easy exposure and "consumer" interaction you could gain through it.

It's hard as hell to get exposure on Tumblr, unless you're lucky or a particularly skilled fanartist(emphasis on the fanart). Things are VERY EASILY hidden there, which is why the "dark web" thing you mentioned was even possible.

I'm not a porn artist, but this whole thing is incredibly depressing. So! I'm posting my perfectly SFW art here, too. It's not like Tumblr was great for anyone who posted anything other than fanart, anyway. Probably because tumblr doesn't have an equivalent to a Portal. You only find things by searching specific tags or if someone you already follow reblogs something. That makes gaining traction as a creator of original works very hard on Tumblr.

I was a Newgrounds frequenter way back when I was a teenager(like 16 years ago) but never really took part in the community or anything. So it's sorta like meeting someone you knew in high school and finding them again and they turned out to be an alright person after everything.

This site is less socially-oriented in terms of its core functions, but as an artist it might be more advantageous.
Here's hoping I have better luck on Newgrounds!

Tumblr: We just want to create an environment "where more people feel comfortable expressing themselves." (Jeff D’Onofrio, 2018)

Tumblr: Bans an entire form of expression.

Neato.

But, on a positive note, welcome to Newgrounds, Tumblr pilgrims!

As expected, Tumblr is getting a lot worse with their guidelines and now it is turning into a "super christian religious based server waah waa waaah."

Well, I'm glad that Newgrounds is still alive and kicking. I'm happy to be part of this beautiful site. Content creation for life, baby!

EDIT: Also the tags cap out at four, this isn't enough for a lot of artists.

We're planning to both expand the tags and have tag auto-suggestions, so expect some good improvements there!

Yes, Tumblr has screwed up once again. This time way worse than last time. NewGrounds is awesome, and glad to see so many new artists arriving.

A good way to do this currently is to do a tag search under our Advanced Search. This is another area where we're between two systems... The tag listings are based on an old system while the site search is based on Elasticsearch, which is going to be powering more and more things around here as areas evolve.

Currently if you search for something in the header, on the results page you can make sure your in the Art category, then click Advanced search and filter by tags. The ultimate goal will be to get to those sort of results much easier and browse them with larger thumbnails or full pieces in an endless stream, depending on preference.

I can't believe that Newgrounds is experiencing a huge revival with the death of Tumblr. I am definitely interested in seeing what pops up in the Portals now.

Tumblr was always shit and now it's proved it's shit!

Well newgrounds, you sure got me to make an account after not having one for about a decade, can't wait to see tumblr die and see newgrounds be the new home for big butts, since Tumblr hates all of that now.
I'm no artist, but I'm ready to start consuming some of that Not safe for work art that comes in.
