There's some things I wish to cover before getting into my concerns. First of all, I'm glad this is one of the platforms that many tumblr artists are moving to.
Now let's clear some things up:
Tumblr's harsh decision is not out of the blue and not unexpected. For years they had been struggling to control the content that violated their terms. What does this mean? Quite simply, tumblr was becoming the go-to place outside of the darkweb to deal with illegal content. First and foremost, this included unvetted minors who were "exposing" themself, and the straight up circulation of nude images and pornography of minors.
It was becoming apparent that when you went to a blog that dealt with "teen" porn, it was very questionable how many of the youth were legal. In addition, checking the "likes" of several of these blogs revealed that they were genuinely interested in actual minors. It didn't take much digging to figure this out, and you could come across this unknowingly. I'd also like to note that this includes drawings of youth(namely "Lolicon"), which may or may not have been more common. It wasn't allowed to begin with. So its become clear that their solution is to remove all doubt and disallow all adult content so they don't have to hire dozens of employees to *try* and filter through all the explicit content.
Understandably, NG does not have a problem with such kinds of content and outright destroys it if it comes up. Tumblr is a very "free flowing" kind of website and controlling that sort of thing is obviously a challenge. The website itself is simple to use and any "popular" content is easily redistributed very quickly.
As an aside, many believe that the "porn bots" were the problem. I believe they were the tipping point(many minors used tumblr, porn bots interact with any post that becomes popular, you can figure out the rest) and probably resulted in pushing for the app to being removed outright from Apple.
Now, here are my concerns.
As mentioned before, tumblr is very quick to use and served a different function than what NG does. What worries me is how NG will compare for these artists. Just from what I can see, tumblr had the upper hand in that adult content was less curated and more "fair". Posting it consistently and as a group of images seems more difficult here as well. As mentioned previously in this thread it's unlikely that NG will undergo any major changes to accommodate the plethora of new artists.
So I guess my question is, what advantage does NG have over other websites like Pixiv? Nothing quite compares to tumblr and the easy exposure and "consumer" interaction you could gain through it.
As another aside, I'd like to state that this is a throwaway account. This isn't stuff I'd prefer to associate my main with.
