I decided to also buy Synty's Western pack, which I've been drooling over all year. I don't know when I would ever use it, but I'm really impressed with it. I'm especially pleased that they've added interiors to the buildings this time.
I don't have any western costumes, but here's a preview of what it looks like:
Lighting the saloon was interesting. It occurs to me that when you think of a saloon, you're actually thinking of a movie set with studio lighting, big spot lights shining into every nook and cranny. I don't know what they used for lights in the real Old West, but it probably wasn't even electric, and real saloons were probably pretty dim, like this. I think for a real scene, I would use studio lighting, but for this render, the town without any characters has a really empty, ghostly feel to it, and this kind of lighting plays along very well.
