If you've noticed an influx of new artists on Newgrounds over the past 24 hours, it's because Tumblr began purging accounts of NSFW artists. Some of these removals may have been an accident on Tumblr's part but regardless, there's been a migration to Newgrounds.
Incoming artists - your art will primarily appear on your user page until you've been scouted by another artist in the community. You need to upload four pieces of art before you are eligible for scouting.
Some of you might be dismayed at the thought of more lewd content on NG while others are super excited. The good news for everyone is that we're seeing a lot of REALLY TALENTED artists joining up and not everything they post is NSFW.
To anyone who is checking out Newgrounds for the first time today, I'd definitely recommend creating an account. You'll be able to browse NG with less ads and get access to some great features, such as a chronological feed of artists you follow.
Registered 18+ users also have the ability to include adult content in their filters. For an example, go to the Browse All Art page and look for the E, T, M, A buttons in the top right corner. Click the "A" to enable adult, then toggle the other categories to disable them if you like.
For an even better experience, become a supporter and browse Newgrounds ad-free! Newgrounds is disallowed from running Google ads, including Google-owned DoubleClick and the majority of Internet ad spending. This has hurt us in a lot of ways over the years but we can move forward and be better than ever if enough people step up to support the site. We're hoping to pass 2,000 active supporters by the end of 2018!
I also want to remind people not to let any one type of content define Newgrounds for you. More than anything Newgrounds is about being creative and making cool stuff. We all come here to see and hear new things, get inspired and even meet people to collaborate with on projects. Many of us would love to see more pixel art, fan art, fine art, sci-fi futurism, you name it.
Take some time today to explore NG and see all the cool stuff. We have a useful archive if you want to browse everything that's been featured on the front page over the months and years.
You may have noticed this post is in an older, non-mobile friendly layout. We've been overhauling one area at a time and the next to launch will be our updated forums. We'll also be updating the rich text editor in blogs so those will get a lot better. Check out the Community News and say hi to all the new people who are blogging!
We're very interested in hearing your feedback! You can PM me or reply right in this thread. Let us know what parts of NG confuse you and what features you would like to see. We have a long list of features we would like to implement and while it takes time, we're in this for the long haul and day by day the site moves ahead. It will always be a work in progress and that's a good thing.
If you're an established artist and your name is taken here on Newgrounds, reach out to me and I might be able to help! Set up an account and PM me to discuss.
