I have already some experience with Java but my JS skills are rusty. Im wondering if anyone can look at my code and maybe give a few pointers to how I can improve.

I am not the greatest coder, but the one issue I see is that you should create a height and width variable/constant and use that in the code.
var width = canvas.width;
var height = canvas.height;
This way the script can handle if canvas is different sizes.
