NGRMC 2018

Hello there! Welcome to Newgrounds Remix Competition 2018! (NGRMC) I’m Zophar and I will be your host. This is the first time for this competition. If this competition lives onto next year, then maybe a few other judges will join. But it’s just me. What this competition is: You are given a four (4) bar melody and you have to remix it into a full song. You will have one month to make the remix. October 1, 2018 is the deadline. So submit your remixes by then!

Rules:

You have to remix the melody. You can change it up a bit but it has to have some elements of the melody in it. If you submit a song that has a totally different melody or just a completely different song, then your song will not enter through.
Your song must be in between 2:00 - 5:00 minutes. I will accept it if it’s 1:55 or 3:05 but nothing over those limits.
You must submit it before the deadline. If you don’t then your song won’t make it through. If you have any problems PM me so we can discuss the details.
This must be ORIGINAL WORK! No taking copyrighted samples. This remix must be original using the melody I gave you. If I find out you used copyrighted samples you will not move on further.
No collaborating. This needs to be an independent project. If you’re in a band or music group and you still want to participate but you can’t because you can’t do it without your other member’s help, PM me and we’ll discuss.
Your remix can be any music genre but don’t make it a solo instrument. Have at least 3 instruments in the song.

How to submit: You enter your song by copy and pasting the link into your post your writing on the bbs on this thread. You can give a little description. A description is not required but it would be helpful. Then submit. You are allowed to make edits to the song after you submit it until the deadline. Just tell me by replying to your submission that you made edits.

Here is the melody. I took a screenshot of it and submitted a audio file of it so you can hear just what it sounds like. The recommended tempo is 100 - 140. (Tempo of the demo is 120bpm.) And the Key is G# Minor.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

You can name the song whatever you want! But you have to put NGRMC Remix at the end of it.

Examples:

Yoda12 - Flower (NGRMC Remix)
GoldenFly1es - Green (NGRMC Remix)
QuietWater - Peace (NGRMC Remix)

Those are just made up usernames for examples.

Seems pretty neat. I'm down. I wish I could have the actual midi file for it, that would make my job a little easier.

Question: if the melody and chords actually do get used but it becomes a different song in a way, meaning it is only partly the focus of the song, then will it qualify?

You yes, sort of. There has to be at least a section featuring the melody and chords. The rest of the song you can do whatever. You can change the melody up to your liking, but don't make it sound completely different. It's gotta have some elements of the original melody if you change it. And I would recommend to keep the chords.

I will PM the winners their prizes. It will remain a secret. But it will benefit a lot of people, but there can only be one winner. And maybe their will be smaller prizes to second and third place.

Thanks for the reply, @Zophar. I have decided to enter the competition, with 1'26" of music on the first day because the idea for the song really hit me like a truck, I'm buzzing too much from band stuff to be able to do anything else right now, and I imagine this'll make a nice little detour from the stresses I've got.

I'll try to make it at least 1:50 since most of my tracks stop at 1:40 so far, if I have inspiration, I'll make it longer !

Okay. I will allow you to make a 1:50 song since you make your songs short.

Oooh I'd be interested! But... I'm confused on the time rule, is the limit 5 minutes as it says in the rule or 3 as what it says in the limits??
