Hey so, I'm not really a massive movie buff or anything but recently I saw Last Action Hero and although it wasn't the best thing I've ever seen (I'll leave it at that..) it made me realise how I pretty much only watched shit like Marvel films and a few other rare cases.

So what films/movies would you recommend, personally? I'm not really looking for anything specific, just something that can pull you into the story, pretty much.

-American Pop (Note: It's a Ralph Bakshi film)
-Rock & Rule
-Heavy Metal
-Chicken Run
-300
-V for Vendetta
-Cobra
-The Truman Show
-Song of the Sea

Time to bust a move and get it started. Time's wastin'.

Yup, those are great movies. I recommend:

Split

The Holy Mountain (1973)

If you don't like slow build up movies I'd recommend you don't watch these.

Platoon. Directed and written by Oliver Stone an actual Vietnam vet. Based on several men he fought with from different platoons all rolled into one. Its an '80s war film so don't expect Saving Private Ryan effects.

Heat. Al pacino(cop) and Robert de niro(robber). De niro is a real pro who doesn't fuck around and al is a hardcore cop relentless and on the prowl.

1. Dawn of the Dead(original)group of runners take over a mall and make it their life in the zombie apocalypse. 2. Day of the dead. Government research in developing a zombie cure the survivors start to break down in the bunker and become their own enemies.(Classic zombie movies by what I believe as the father of zombie films).

These are not as much old as the above...

Team America. America fuck yeah!

Tusk. About a sensitive old man who shares his memoirs of his life and love for a walrus.

Tropic thunder - paradoy of dramatic films and lingo in Vietnam war films. Pokes fun at platoon. But hey its just a movie.

The older action hero movies are good.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 Film If you haven't seen the very first movie, click that link and check it out. That is honestly, I think, the BEST turtle movie still to date. Story line, fighting, and great writing.

Also, if you like karate movies. Blood and Bones is a classic. This was a straight to DVD movie but consider a cult classic.

Well, you mentioned Marvel, that's kinda on the fantasy side of things. Off the top of my head for 20th century in that genre would be... Krull, Buckaroo Banzai, original Batmens w/ Michael Keaton, if you don't mind defecting to DC. I'm better than any search engine, gimme 2-4 keywords and I can throw something your way.

No, It's because Kill Bill is technically two movies but I consider them one.

Ah, the slash was not a divisive one, but an indecisive one! It makes sense now.

Trying to keep as concise and accessible a list as possible, I'd recommend these four if you haven't seen them.

Hot Fuzz
There Will Be Blood
12 Angry Men
Terminator 2

This right here is also the shit. Actually if you haven't seen it then Fight Club should be your #1 priority out of all the films listed in this thread. Essential viewing and the groundwork for virtually every #cinephile's taste in the last two decades. As an 18 y/o male you're pretty much biologically guaranteed to like it.

Coraline
Donnie Darko
Edward Scissorhands*
Fight Club
Her*
Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade*
