I am so pleased that nobody has posted an idea similar to mine yet.

I've just been throwing ideas at the wall and this is my favourite thus far. I might add a couple more things, and then I gotta make my sketch and start painting!

An Extremely Cursed Image

My English isn't that great, so I'm a little confused with the meaning of 'pimp'. Jazza mentions 'pop culture'. Does this mean I can add something like... Star Wars or Pokemon, or something like that, to 'pimp it out'?

Yes, the idea of the challenge is to add references to modern culture (1800s - now)! This could include Pokémon or Star Wars if you would like.

You are supposed to use references from 1980 until now. The 1800s could provide the original painting but not the time you move it into.

My bad! That was a very unfortunate typo - I meant to type 1980, not 1800s.

Hi Jazza, I hope you accept this response. I made it digitally because I am sadly not able to do it on paper or draw it myself, This is because of my dysgrafia (handwriting disorder which makes me bad at drawing, writing, and basically everything I do with my hands. To see the original image go here:

Uploading does not work anymore with me... to see image go here

Well, maybe you could search not so famous... Like "renaissance artist that weren't that famous" then look at their works of art. That gives you both options and dates so you can check if its within 150 years. If you don't want to do renaissance then search other culture's name for that time period and search the same. 😊 I hope I was some help
Thank you for the wise words, I've managed to find a painting that I'm happy to work with, and by a famous painter that was from my local area as well. :)

You all should watch Jazza's video. He posted examples which do seem to be younger than 150 years ago.

Mona Lisa and Renaissance woman with jazza shirt someone did is funny.

I edited all 4 progress pictures together because I like to take multiple progress pictures lol so here's my 90s Mona Lisa.

*did you know the Mona Lisa is supposed to be spelt Monna Lisa (meaning my lady Lisa) but it was misspelled 1 time and we just stuck with it*

I thought this was supposed to be a challenge? Most of these WIP's are photo manips, not recreations. That's beyond easy to use photoshop, plus someone literally took the original artwork and drew over it? That's not fair at all.

He responded to someone on twitter that the art needs to be recreated. The rules on this thread also state: You may not submit a piece using stolen artwork or imagery

I'm definitely going to redraw this later, but here's a very rough sketch of my idea. This is the Girl With a Pearl Earring, except she also has a pearl necklace, pearl rimmed sunglasses, and a phone with a pearl rimmed case that she's taking a selfie with (using a selfie stick of course). I'm thinking it's name should either be #PearlTime or #PearlLife. I'm not sure if I should modernize her clothes or not. I kind of like the juxtaposition it creates, but I'm a little worried it'll be considered against the spirit of the competition (plus I think it'd be hard to give her new clothes and still have her be easily identified as the Girl With a Pearl Earring). What do you guys think?

Do you know if it would be allowed to have one of Jazza's Youtube thumbnails as a part of the entry? It would just be a small part but I wouldn't want to be disqualified on a technicality.

* * * Attention participants * * *

This is an art creation contest. This is not a Photoshop-the-original contest. You MUST create the entire piece yourself. You may not use photos, whether part(s) or all, of the original.

If you want the Mona Lisa with sunglasses, you may draw the Mona Lisa, and then draw her with sunglasses, but you may NOT take the original and draw or photoshop sunglasses on her.

You may not take characters, logos, icons, or photographs from the internet and incorporate them into your work. You can take inspiration from them, but you must draw everything yourself. If you throw a filter on a photo, we will know and will remove your submission, so why waste your time on something that will be removed?

If your work is removed by a moderator, do not resubmit it. If you have any questions, you may contact a moderator. We are here to help. Choose a name below and send us a PM with your question:

Can't you decrease minimum time period to 100-120 years so 1890s paintings can be included?

I don't think Jazza responds to these threads very often, You'd be better off asking him on Twitter.

Does any one know if I can reccreate paintings such as, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, does it count as classical?
