Hi guys, it's always a pleasure to give you all an update on opportunities happening now that need high quality music. I consider the audio community at Newgrounds to be my greatest partner, and I truly believe that Newgrounds audio can be a great asset to the media industry worldwide. If you are willing to work with me, then I am more than willing to represent your highest quality work to the editors and publishers.

I've actually been wanting to do something like this for quite some time and I think if this works out, then we may truly have something big going for us here. However, keep in mind that I have to invest money for the publisher to pitch the music, so I am only going to submit the best music that fits the criteria they are looking for; and if I believe your music has great potential to get a spot in the Olympics, then I am willing to pay the fees to push your music forward.

Here is what's going on basically:

I am pitching select artists for placement in North America and International broadcasts for the 2018 Winter Games in South Korea. This includes all events, promotions, trailers and recaps associated with the buildup, individual events, human interest pieces and TV broadcast for 2018 coverage. Editors and producers specifically requested music that is exciting, reflective, uplifting, anthemic and celebratory in order to capture the spirit of this global athletic event.

Music may be used during the games, remaining qualifying trial events, main event coverage, highlight reels, pre/post segment broadcasts, intro and outro clips, TV/commercial break trailers, and many other placements across various licensed outlets. Usage will air on major television networks in North America and internationally, resulting in duplicate royalties for re-airs and multi-territory usages. Music will be exposed to millions of viewers, sponsors, editors, producers, and brands.

Submission Date:
Have something submitted to this thread by January 29th.

Genres Accepted:
Open to all contemporary genres that match the emotional qualities expressed above. Dance, Rock, Pop, Folk, Singer/Songwriter, Urban, Electronic, R&B/Rap/Hip-Hop all Cross-Genres accepted. Both songs with vocals and instrumentals are accepted.

-Track Length: No less than 90 Seconds. Must work for edits/cut downs.
-Tracks must be well-produced, professional, and ready for inclusion in programming.
-Tracks must be appropriate for the supported content.
-You must own all copyrights.
-No re-titles.
-No uncleared samples will be allowed.

Compensation:
Final usage rate will be decided by final decision makers, dictated by duration of track usage, placement in the production and act/artist draw. Final usage rate will be approved, negotiated and mutually agreed upon by copyright owners in writing once final tracks are approved. No transfer of assets will occur.

Basically, we will negotiate a final number that you are comfortable with. I will work hard to get the best deal possible.

This is Important:
If your song is selected and we come to an agreeable payment, then there will be a 95/5 split between us -- you keep 95% and I'll have 5%. For example, if the payout is $15,000 then you will keep $14,250. If you can live with this, then I really look forward to hearing your submission!

Final Rules:
Please submit ONE song to this thread that you think would be the best fit for this year's Olympic Games. The competition will be very fierce, so give me your absolute best possible! You can submit work that you have created in the past, but if you think you can create something new within the next few days then feel free to do so.

Make sure the song is at least 1:30 long, and preferably a little diverse so the editors have options to choose from. I do not have time to help master or edit your track, so make sure it is mastered and broadcast-ready. The next opportunity I get I will have more time to help you with mastering and all that good stuff, so hopefully people will want to continue this idea.

I will only be choosing a select few tracks, and I will let you know my decision on January 30th. I have to have everything sent out by January 31st, so I am moving fast on this.

As a final thought, if you feel like this 'partnership' between us isn't the right fit for you, then simply don't submit anything. I want to see how successful this is and if there is any interest in it.

If you do have anymore questions or need more information, please send me a pm. If you want to rant about how dumb this is and how I am trying to rip you off, then please pm me your grievances -- I'd rather not see flame wars here and ultimately have to resort to locking this thread.

If you like this idea -- I'm ready to see what you've got!

If I take part, I cannot accept payment. What cut is meant for me should be donated to a charity that supports migrants and refugees.

Do we need to do something new, or are past pieces acceptable? I am fighting through a lot to be able to compose at the moment.

You can either create something new (you have seven days to do so) or you can submit something you already have in the audio portal as long as it is high quality and broadcast ready :)

This seems like a really cool opportunity! It's great that you're turning to the NG community, looking for material while helping people out. I don't think I have anything old ready for this, from my old compositions. But I assume a solo piano track could work too, in case it fits the qualities described in the post?

If that is the case, I'll see what I can come up with :)
Either way, thanks for organizing something nice like this, hopefully engaging the audio community a bit :3

Then take Uplift, my best piece of 2015. The BBC has broadcast it, and it's a Vangelis-type theme which I hope may be fitting for something like this.

EDIT: I can't post the link here. I'm typing off my fiancé's phone, mine's conked out. AGAIN. But there's only one piece of mine with the title Uplift, you'll know where to find it.

Thanks @I0TA for the heads up.
This week is quite busy for me to write something specifically festive for this, but I think this comes pretty close to the description of "anthemic, uplifting, and reflective:"

Just a quick thought because I forgot to mention this: if anyone needs advice or suggestions just pm me. That's why I'm here -- to help you put forward your best possible. Sometimes we all just need consultation, so feel free to contact me anytime.

Also, please let me know if you prefer to be called something besides your username on Newgrounds.

Here's my submission to the 2018 "Winter Olympics - Music Needed"! It's anthemic, uplifting, and lightly pensive for a brief moment.

I just found this thread, and I realized that the song I've been producing fits the style of winter sports. I didn't know what to call it and the cover art isn't professionally made, but I worked very hard on the song itself.

Can I have a clarification on what you mean by "uncleared samples"? I have an unreleased track which I think might fit the bill, but it has a couple sampled drum breaks in it.

I'd also like to know if I could keep it private for the time being, because I do have some future release plans for it.

Coincidentally, while making this tune I was always thinking about how awesome it would go with some action packed skiing edits. And the artwork fits quite well with that theme.
I'm not sure if I'm hitting the right emotions though or if it would fit into a TV format like this.
It has a lot of exciting and a bit of uplifting in it, but of course you can listen and judge for yourself. :)

Would gladly hear back in case you think it could make a good fit.

Thanks for the opportunity, @Bosa, as well as @I0TA for the kind shout-out.

Uncleared samples are basically samples you don't have full copyrights for. Basically if you use external loops or samples they must either be royalty free, or you must have bought the rights for it. Short version: Make sure that you have the right to earn money of the track.

Exactly. If you use samples, make sure they are royalty free or you have permission to use them commercially. As for keeping it private: I see no reason why not. I would prefer submissions from Newgrounds, but I can understand your desire to keep it private.

I'm kinda upset that I've been so far away from home (NG) for so long.

What an opportunity.
