FCC gutting Net Neutrality 2017-11-21 10:37:07

Uhhhh my guys, I don't like the looks out this: https://www.wired.com/story/fcc-prepares-to-unveil-plan-to-gut-net-neutrality/amp

Looks like we're all gonna have to pay for parts of the internet from now on if they're going to kill it this week.

Sad man hours.

I really don't know what to put on here.

So it's actually happening, are you kidding me?
How did this even manage to slide through?

republicans have been pushing this shit hard since the obama net neutrality rules got passed

republicans get to see how good the free wheelin' capitalist internet is going to be in the u.s. (worse than it already is which is amazing)

What I meant is that I have no idea how in the world this is being considered this time around, since every time before this it was widely fought against. The only time I heard this being mentioned was from a Critikal video and this thread, which I find kind of strange considering that it's even more threatening than the previous attempts because it actually might happen.

Bruh,
.
.
.
.
They're gonna regulate the fucking internet. It's gonna goddman happen.

The government NEEDS to control the media. They don't want to, necessarily, because it makes them look bad, but they NEED to, because otherwise the media can be used to organize insurrections.

It's gonna happen.

Too many people are in jail over internet shit for not to happen.

They're gonna make some organization just like the FCC was for radio and television, and they're gonna regulate it.

There's too much money. It's gonna happen.

This is how the cowboys felt when barbed wire and railroads fenced in the Wild West.

(also the rest of the world's governments have nothing to say about this? What makes the US the official owners and police of the Internet?)

Here's the world perspective on this, though: China has regulated internet already. They seem to be doing well with it.

Too late. It's all in the metadata now.

This is going to ruin the internet for many people. They aren't controlling the internet they are giving companies that provide internet free reign over everything. So they can charge you more money for certain things as they please. Lets just hope the company that provides our internet isn't a raging monopoly. Google, Amazon, and Facebook is against FCC and maybe with enough votes and outcry we can stop this.

"Instead, the FCC would simply require internet service providers to be transparent about their practices so that consumers can buy the service plan that’s best for them and entrepreneurs and other small businesses can have the technical information they need to innovate."

That same kind of idiotic thinking is also behind the Trump version of health care "reform" which (contrary to their misguided beliefs) will NOT raise competition and bring down costs. What will happen is that big companies will get away with whatever they want, charging astronomically high amounts for what should be basic services. The people that need these services (whether it's a free an open Internet or health care) the most will be left behind to rot. It won't take very long for the results to be obvious.

The poorest people in rural areas that voted Trump into office will probably continue to, because they will be less likely to afford access to even the most basic information online that could convince them otherwise. It's a digital world now. Newspapers still get printed, but much less so than in the old days. You might see a little bit more of a resurgence if it becomes common knowledge that only the rich can go online.

If you think I'm exaggerating, consider the very real fact that there are some parts of the country where Blockbuster is still open and doing well because Netflix is too expensive and inaccessible. They are in certain parts of Texas, Oregon and Alaska. Google the exact locations yourself.

A less informed public in general is good for people like Trump. Notably, despite all the information he has access to, he's just too impulsive, unhinged and stupid to make sense of it. Part of me is happy about that, because he has bad ideas. Someone with the same ideas but smarter is infinitely more dangerous.

Fight this with every last breath that you have. This is part of a scheme at the highest levels of government to make America stupid again...well, stupider.

No you won't, shut up. Liberals say that EVERY time Republicans do something they don't like. Wanna go to Canada? Better not have a DUI, an assault charge or the like. Better be able to either know 100% perfect English or know a 2nd language AND have a bachelors degree to get in.

I've looked into skipping off to the Kingdom of Deh Kanada. Trust me mate. It's not an easy thing to do.

If you applied for citizenship today, and you had a PHD and knew French. It'd take you about 5 years to actually get in. 10 or even more for the average person.

Unless you fancy Europe which is having their refugee crisis or perhaps Mexico which is also in a war zone; you're not going anywhere anytime soon.

Hey NIMROD, I'm not even liberal you fucking NIMROD. I just so happen to not want to spend 3 fucking hours trying to look at my college e-mails because some greedy fuck decided he really wanted that third Jacuzzi.

Who the fuck said I had any DUI or assault charges? Maybe I have a little more self control than you?? And at no point did I ever say WHERE or WHEN I would go. I gotta finish up this school shit before I'm going anywhere regardless.

Okay cool, but maybe I just want to be able to upload a fucking image onto a personal website that isn't slowed down by 8000000% because it's not included in the Verizon bundle. Guess I can go to Canada for that though since apparently all you need to do is not be a criminal and speak your own language, which I guess you can't do or something.

tl;dr go fuck yourself you politically charged retard, thanks for trying and over analyzing an obviously dramatized statement to paint me as some brainless liberal

What it is a violation of free speech and freedom of the press if you read the constitution the federal government is not allowed to censor any type of media nor individuals form of media,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_speech_in_the_United_States

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_the_press

Just like Communist nations like Russia and china and a lot of others in Asia and mostly Europe they prevent anything that is not the Aryan way. In other words is you stand up against the state you will be shot and killed by police

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Communist_Manifesto

If you read this book you may know what is happening with in America, Right now it's socialist and the our government regulates everything you do even taking a shit.

If you do not a act now America will become a communist nation and lead to a complete police state where you are shot and killed on site.

How much does shilling an agenda pay? Like, where do you go to get hired to help convince the internet Ajit is on their side? Do they provide you with benefits like proxies from other countries and psychology lessons?

In all seriousness, not only is this completely illogical, but you’re only giving them more of an out to enact worse laws and behavior and makes you look and act thin-skinned, which they actively prey upon. Net neutrality is worth supporting, but you won’t be able to do that if you have a hissy fit and move to another country that may or may not accept you anyway.

I don’t know if you’re either ignorant or naive, but Trumpism is all about playing dirty and preying on the weak, and if you leave over a first-world problem, (albeit still important) then you’re giving more legitimacy than they deserve.

Hey dumb dumb, it's clearly an illogical statement meant purely to express anger, so what's the point in replying? Do you want me to print this out and hang it on the fridge for you? Maybe you oughta stop taking yourself and others so seriously. I said this specifically to be dramatic because as it turns out, gutting net neutrality kinda fucking sucks and golly I'd sure hate to spend 4 hours trying to check important e-mails and watch as Newgrounds withers down into a corpse.

But hey, you're so fucking smart that you feel like PWNING some random person on the internet for getting pissed about a law change that you should be pissed off about too instead of, gee I don't know, putting your actual full thoughts on how the loss of Net Neutrality will affect the United States?

Go back to predicting which NBA player is fucking your wife.

This is really no different from Keystone XL or CISPA. It doesn't matter what public opinion is, these things get crammed down our throats and there's not a damn thing anyone can do about it. I guarantee by 2020 people will have completely forgotten about this and the only thing people will give a damn about is whatever scandals surround the candidates. Policy has been passe for a pretty long time anyway.

I never thought I was going to say this, but Spedmallet actually is right here. Minor inconveniences isn’t going to bother Congressmen in the slightest, and only serves to waste their time and yours as well.

It honestly makes me wonder sometimes why can’t we put more energy into stopping this instead of treating it as a joke all the time or simply cursing like preteens that are away from their parents. Not that I was expecting much from General, but I would like to think that folks take it seriously, especially when I take it that you use the Internet for a lot of things.

I'm in the UK, so I'm not gonna be majorly affected by this. But I do wonder, will I be cut off from a lot of American content producers (now, I don't mean large scale youtubers or anything as I presume they have the money, but more so people like you who I presume probably don't from the posts) because of the lack of access? As in, your posts won't really exist if you don't have access. You get me?
