Japanese 'names' for continents

Japanese 'names' for continents 2017-11-19 09:39:14

So, basically the japanese language uses Europe, Africa etc. in katakana in order to refer to the continents. Here's my own attempt to create kanji based names for them because why not. Might be useful in some Manga or something...

Europe: 信仰の大陸

Asia: 日の出の大陸

Africa: 起源の大陸

America: 夕日の大陸

Oceania: 海の大陸

So, let's see your opinion. Do you have your own suggestions for these?

Well, one could use these Kanji and then use the standard katakana renditions as furigana if you want.

Europe: Continent of faith

Interesting in my opinion

Asia: the continent of the sunrise

Not sure why this one is named after this seeing as every continent sees a sunrise

Africa: Continent of origin

Makes sense seeing as this is were all life originated from

America: Continent of the sunset

Not a continent seeing as America is a country.

Oceania: The continent of the sea

What is the name of the real name of this one?

Not a continent seeing as America is a country.

America isn't a country, The U.S.A is a country, It's just typically called America.

I'm pretty sure it's actually two continents, North and South America.

Continent, yes.

Continent, yes.

Africa: 起源の大陸

Continent, yes.

Continent, NO. North America & South America are both continents. America is not a singular continent.

Oceania: 海の大陸

WTF!?!? If by this they mean Australia, then fine. A simple search will tell you that Australia is a Continent.

Continents not mentioned (by the Japanese).

Australia. Continent, yes.

Antarctica. Continent, yes.

So, let's see your opinion. Do you have your own suggestions for these?

My suggestion is that Japan should learn that there are 7 Continents, not just 5.

Australia. Continent, yes.

Different cultures refer to things differently to us. Go figure.

Well, you tried.
