When you turn 30 2017-10-19 23:30:10

Since my birthday is less than an hour away, I have to ask, what is it like when you first turned 30? All I do know is that I'm getting old...and yet did anything really change?

Mentally anyway...

I'll tell you in 925 days.

You approach the point where you don't have the energy to be invested enough in anything to be offended by it. Whether or not that's a good thing really depends on how optimistic you used to be.

I don't know. I'm not 30, yet. I imagine by the time I'll turn 30, I'd have gone deranged.

It's just a number dude. Don't think about it too much. The important thing is how you feel about yourself.

I hope I'll be dead by then.

I'm already 30.

I don't feel any different.

I just hate everyone and everything a little more, but to be honest, I think that's the influence of @funkbrs.

You're creeping evermore towards death. This may be half your life or more, memento mori.

This was my plan too.

You're welcome.

No, seriously, I never expected to live this long.

In my family, at my age, you normally are murdered, OD, or die in a wreck.

This is a song about death. It's on mandolin.

Hate is the first step to all solutions.

You will not end bigotry until you learn to hate it.

You're welcome.

Except you. You are the only person I don't hate.

Other than realizing certain things about the world and myself, I still feel like I'm in my 20s.

I felt the same as well, oh well now that I'm 30.

Mentally anyway...

At 55, I wished that I had taken better care of myself after 30... I'm now 56, and realize that my procrastination is biting me in the ass.

So do that! (Not bite me in the ass, take better care of yourself.)

A bit 'o philosophy, if I may...

"30" is, yes, just another number. So is "40" and so is "50" and the thing is, most people just say "it's another number."

Shitsticks who lie through their teeth say "50" is the new "30," and they're so full of prune juice and viagra that it isn't even funny.

If you want to stay in good health, mentally and physically, start paying attention now. Not that you need to, yet.

You might have another half decade.

But, the human male reaches a physical peak between 16 and 20 (or so I'm told by numerous studies) and it's much easier to enjoy an early retirement by people of all sexes who start paying attention to finances at or right around 30 years of age.

Everyone says "I'm not gonna live that long, goddammitt!" but a lot of us end up living that long, and I, for one, wish I had taken more care and planned a little better when I was young and strong and very, very capable.

At the age of 55, I made an "exit strategy" which I haven't had to use yet. It won't involve anything other than my quiet passing on my own terms.

Had I been smarter when I was 30, I wouldn't even be thinking about this shit.

So, do as you will, but please try to take away some advice from this post. You'll live longer than you expect, so try to do some things NOW while you're at your peak to assure that you're comfortable when you get past the end of the road you expected to take.

Sincerely,
Ray Remen

And all the more reason for me to keep taking care of myself whenever I can. Cardio have always been my thing so its something that can be done with enough time, especially during the weekends.

Honestly, my life pretty much began at 30. Probably because I spent much of my 20s being transient between college/grad school and moving a few times for several jobs. Once I hit 30, I was married and bought a house. Stability and financial security are great for self-esteem, I'll tell you.

And honestly, it just seems like life is so much better and I'm having more fun. Those factors are a big part of it, but maybe it's because I don't feel like I have to try so hard to get anywhere anymore (other than what is necessary for work or to maintain my personal life). Like, I'm not stressing over a thesis or job applications. I can actually take time and enjoy things.

Also: who needs your family telling you what to do all the time? Having them live two hours away is awesome.

My family has a history of about every disease there is, so I sincerely hope someone kills me painlessly before it ever comes to that.
