Flinthook Art Contest

Flinthook is now available on Steam, Xbox One and PS4. To celebrate, we're hosting a Flinthook fan art contest!

To participate, simply make some original art based on the universe of space captain Flinthook and upload it here by 11:59PM EST on Wednesday, May 3rd.

Tag your entry with "flinthook" so we find it. If you aren't a scouted artist on NG, we'll still find your entry!

Entries will be judged by Flinthook creators Tribute Games, with the top ten being gifted Flinthook Steam keys. Already own it? Gift a copy to a friend!

I had no idea Flinthook was released! I'm gonna buy it ASAP, I played it at PAX East a year ago, fell in love, and was wondering what happened to that game or when it was gonna release, but here it is.

I had no idea either. haven't heard of it before. Picked it up yesterday and played 2 runs, it's great. Reminds me a bit of Rogue Legacy (cards at the start to influence your run, mix of perma-death and some permanant upgrades). which I also enjoyed greatly.

I've known JF Major (Tribute Games co-founder / programmer) over the years from PAX so when he sent me a Steam key for Flinthook I pitched the art contest to him. Tribute previously made some games (Wizorb, Mercenary Kings) with art by Paul Robertson, who had done some NG pixel art in the 2007 design footer, so that was an initial connection between Tribute and NG. There might be some other connections in there I've forgotten / am not aware of though.

I played countless hours of Wizorb, love the personality inherent in their designs. I'll have to whip something up for this I think, if at least to show my gratitude for providing awesome entertainment...I actually might get impatient and purchase the game before the end of this contest anyway.

This is the finished version of my piece for the contest and as I said in my submission post, I'm a bit of a beginner when it comes to art, but using a combination of drawing with Sketchbook's symmetry tool and Photoshop to align the layers, all of the art was created by me (by looking at reference art on google and trying to copy it exactly).

I don't really have my own style yet, so mandalas are a fun way for me to be creative (design-wise) without getting frustrated trying to come up with my own art concepts. I hope you all like it!
