Moving on to the 3D consoles.
Nintendo 64 or Playstation 1? Both systems had really memorable games.

I personally pick Nintendo 64, simply because I can't live without SM64, Conker's Bad Fur Day and Paper Mario.

I personally haven't played too much of either console. Most of my time with the N64 was spent on the Zelda titles. Incredible games, but with titles like Spider-Man, Silent Hill, and Metal Gear Solid I have to side with the PS1 for now.

N64. The PS 1 had a few good games that I played but most weren't that memorable. The twisted metal series was alright but compared to super mario 64, Legend of Zelda OOT & majora's mask as well as most of the other games, it doesn't hold up well.

I never played any of the RPGs for PS 1 however and from what I've heard, the PS1 had the "good" final fantasies, star oceans and a few other decent games of that genre. The only one I played on N64 was quest 64 which in my opinion, sucked.

The N64:
+Chockfull of memorable games like Turok, [Insert Rareware game], Paper Mario, Super QPU 64, and everyone's favourite: Superman 64
+Loads shit instantly
+The controller's analog stick
-Many of the game's titles have the "64" gimmick
-The mystifying "crossbow" controller layout
-Lacking in the RPG department
-Less capacity

The PS1 (or PSX, or PSOne)
+Large capacity for games on a CD, meaning adding some FMVs
+Shit ton of games, especially RPGs
+The Dual analog & Dualshock controllers
-Some games require more than 1 CD, meaning who knows what it cost back then
-CDs are more prone to scratches, meaning games can be unplayable without proper care
-Long load times

Hard call. I think Nintendo was really killing it in that era with games that really set the bar for how 3D games should play and was the best at transitioning their traditionally 2D franchises into 3D, but the Playstation had a larger library of solid games that covered more genres: Squaresoft JRPGs, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil (excluding 2 which got a N64 port), Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Ape Escape, Gran Turismo, Tekken and Street Fighter and an overall larger amount of cool obscure games to hunt down if you're into that.

I was primarily an N64 kid, but in retrospect I gotta go Playstation on this one.

Playstation hands down.

Crash & Spyro kicks Mario & Banjo's ass. And that library of RPGs just can't be beat.

Nintendo 64 calms me down alot. PlayStation was great but sometimes I feel there's a never ending stream of great from it. It gets me too wild sometimes. My vote is Nintendo 64.

I've always preferred the N64 over the original Playstation because of the game selection.

I'm more familiar with PS1, which had the original Resident Evil, Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill, Xenogears, Symphony of the Night, Metal Gear Solid, Crash Bandicoot, even Grand Theft Auto.

I'm aware a lot of classic titles were released for N64 (Ocarina of Time and Conker's Bad Fur Day come to mind) but as a whole I've never been crazy about Nintendo's obsession with old series, be it Mario, Zelda or Pokemon. At a certain point it's time to move on.

PS1 for me.
Twisted Metal, Resident Evil, Tekken, Crash, Spyro, MK4. All of those games are apart of my childhood.

i never owned a PS1 so N64 wins by default for me. Conker's Bad Fur Day, Mario 64, Ocarina, Goldeneye, Turok, all games of my childhood. i also always thought that PS1 games were very ugly. hard to pinpoint why this is and i'm not saying games like Goldeneye were visual masterpieces, just something about the way PS1 did 3D was unappealing to me.

If you have a group of friends, obviously you want to go with 64. Golden, perfect dark, smash bros all night long.

However, with ps1, better system if you are a loner since have a ton of one player games. Also sports games more plentiful on system.

N64 dude...all the way. VASTLY superior hardware. I had an N64 and a genesis, my cousins had a psx and a supernintendo, so I had a lot of experience with all four consoles...and the load times were atrocious on the PSX, just absolutely atrocious...of course it had timeless pieces like FF7, and that game with the hover-bikes which was awesome, and no one can deny that intensely massive library of RPGs...and yeah, Metal Gear Solid deserves an honorable mention as a revolutionary game...

but Super Mario 64 defined what a 3d platformer SHOULD be for us today (free roaming, episodically driven), which Crash's rail's driven linearity failed to accomplish. 007 Goldeneye defined what a narrative-driven FPS SHOULD be, and gave us the first real FPS multiplayer on console...Medal of Honor (which didn't even hit PSX until years after Goldeneye was released) eventually fell to the wake of CoD...and never made the same kind of waves. Zelda OoT defined what a fantasy-action game SHOULD be...that one's tough to beat even by today's standards, I think, in terms of depth and breadth in the story and experience, and I have a hard time coming up with an analogue on the PSX.

Lastly, I think if Resident Evil had originally been designed for the N64 with that wacky controller, the RE series would've been better off...I mean, not trying to knock RE7 - from what I've seen of it, it appears to be a fantastic game (haven't played it, yet)...but RE5 sucked balls because it used the same inherently flawed movement/shooting system that was originally designed for RE1...on PSX...20 fucking years ago: stop, aim, shoot, run, repeat. It worked great in the setting of a spooky house, while you had 2-3 enemies to take out at a time...in RE5, they'd drop you in an arena with 50 fucking zombies...same clunky ass controls...thats a whole 'nother rant though...

My Uncle had a Nintendo 64 I and played a few games on it, I even still have a Banjo Kazooie cartridge,
but then my big sis gave me and my bro a PS1 with Crash Bandicoot 1 and 2, Crash Bash and Crash Team Racing.
We even got a PS2 afterwards which is great cause we could still play our PS1 games.
So I'm team PS1 if you couldn't tell.

N64. Had a lot of titles that I'm still a fan of today... and I also never got to play on the PS1 in the first place.
So take my vote with a biased grain of salt.

I have both consoles with interesting and unique games, but most of the time I have always played on the Nintendo 64. I love the crappy, empty and colorful 3d worlds. The console also provided more Collectathons and I like to collect a lot of unnecessary garbage in games. The PS1 games feel more darker and muddier. Spyro is one of the few examples I can remember with a brighter setting and that game had a nice scratch on the CD. It was better to have cartridges as a child.

If we're purely going by first-party titles, I would go with the N64 slightly over the PS1. Overall however, I would go with the PS1 because there were a lot more quality titles in many different genres. It's hard to judge something like this in a vacuum because they both have their strengths and weaknesses, and I had both consoles at around the same time.
