Trying to find good game engine

I'm looking for a easy for beginners 2d-3d game engine that can work on windows vista and is free, any help would be great.

Construct is a great tool that is powerful and easy to use, and specifically designed so beginners and experienced developers alike can use it. You need to pay for the full version, but it has a free version that is very much usable.

GameMaker is another solid choice that also has a free version.

Personally I would recommend Construct, but you can't go wrong with either choice.
