To appreciate one of the most time-consuming digital artforms out there, where we draw not by lines and shapes, but by pixel? :) Metal Gear Slug sprites right? Love that game.

As for 8bit and pixel: 8bit just so happens to be the level CPU's where at back when videogames first got their big boost, and with the graphical limitations of such consoles, pixel art as we know it was born. Pixel art basically just means digital art created via raster, on the pixel level. The fact that there's a certain 'style' we relate to Pixel art probably has to do more with the generation of games from that era, and the art style of those, than what pixel art really 'is'. So, there's 8-bit style of pixel art, for 8bit console games, but 8bit isn't actually a method. Limited color palettes were a thing too.
