Is there any other benefit (either to you or us) to paying monthly rather than yearly? I'd prefer to keep my yearly subscription, but if monthly works better for the site revenue then I'll happily change?
Sounds really good to me. I tried to get the one-month supporter upgrade via PayPal but it said that at the moment it is unable to process it and that I should try again later (for me the message is in german but that is basically what it said). I see that it worked for others, so is it an issue on my side?
Exciting news! Love the supporter page face lift, the goals; the ability to chose how much you want to pay (though I'm glad the yearly subscription is the same). Hopefully the slider won´t ever bug out and jump up to the highest amount right before you hit the payment button... btw, really hope some of the old secrets are added back in again! Or new ones, all types of extras, there are so many fun incentives that could be added to make you feel special as a supporter (I mean there's plenty of awesome stuff already - JSYK those of you who're looking to buy-in - but there used to be so much more).
Existing Unity3D games will remain. We would like to hide them from users who don't have support for it but that's a pretty big filtering project to apply all over the site. Will also be trying to get devs to replace them with WebGL versions, as some have successfully done already.
Was going to ask about that too. Good to hear they might even be transformed and work in the future! Maybe a checkbox filter in user profiles to toggle formats they'd like to be able to view could be used? Recognizing what plugins a user runs and filtering out content based on that seems like it might backfire if ever browser/plugins change their signatures or something. A lot of old Flash games now are telling you to 'install the newest version of Flash' since they didn't account for all versions newer than the versions they were designed for... well, maybe it wouldn't work that way at all with a browser filter. Just a thought.
We plan to bring back user page banners when user pages switch to the mobile adaptive layout.
Looking forward to that!!

strange, rather obscure feature of the BBS... the "User of the Day."
...where the longer you've been a supporter, the larger your probability of getting almost-randomly selected, maybe? Nice idea. If there aren't enough supporters to make for 365 unique SOTDs a year a weekly thing could be cool too.

Unfortunately, recurring payments are not supported for users in Germany.

26 y/o daily visitor here, despite little free time, here to answer some of those questions you posed I hope. For starters, I don't know anyone IRL who visits this place daily, or frequently, or even has an account here, which I assume has to do with where I live more than what kind of people visit this place. I do know plenty of people on the site who do (in the same age group), and it's this community aspect of it all that I like to support, not the content in particular. Though if there is any one place where creativity still seems to thrive, it's here, where new artists can showcase their work and be seen, get feedback, and users decide what goes and what doesn't. Everyone's involved, unlike the commercial giants that most people visit for other purposes (for content, not for community).
As I see it, animated GIFs are like the badges you get on the profile, just a little something for added status. Imagine how it'd look if all sigs were animated. That people who can pay to be a supporter have the evolved taste as to not make their sigs insanely annoying seems like a good basis for that one award. As for how little you get for what you pay for: there are plenty of communities, media sites or file hosts that limit their usability by default, and allow you to pay to upload more than a certain amount, or unlock certain usability features on the site, like being able to post or review or even send private messages; generally just loosen up the limitations of your account. There are no limitations on submission amounts or usabilities here, and the limitations that do exist (like PM limits) are the same for everyone, not to mention so high they shouldn't be considered limitations but rather reasonable thresholds that benefit everyone.
So, being a supporter to me is really just that: supporting the features you get; the site, and what it stands for, not necessarily to gain a wealth of additional perks. Or hide ads. As you mention, those are a minor detail. A community that embraces freedom of speech, respects user privacy, promotes creativity and collaboration, and provides all the tools and features that it does, free of charge, that's something worth contributing to I feel! As for age limitations; the unlikeliness of the majority users being able to give anything in return: as I see it, those who can't pay, still contribute with their activity, in spending time on content or creation. Time's a currency in itself; those who don't have time, probably have something else.
I'm really sad that you're dropping support for unity3d in favor of webgl because webgl is shit on firefox and I really don't want to have to switch browser in order to be able to continue visiting newgronds.
As for the supporter stuff I would gladly give you a lot of money if I had it but I'm poor so...
Maybe if I ever manage to actually make money off my crappy flash games.

Firefox will be dropping support for the Unity plugin so that content will stop working for you regardless. Hopefully they'll get better with WebGL in the process.

I haven't tried it yet, I've seen and heard a lot about it though. I've been wanting to use something a bit more powerful, hence the unity use. How does construct compare in power?

I do, have been since 99.. while newgrounds is painfully behind in the times in terms of ease of use and assessibility it still has an incredible wealth of content to offer..If newgrounds can get enough subscribers to update its structure and lock in content.. (something it should've been doing for years) then this could easily be the entertainment Hotspot it was so many years before..That to me is definitely worth the investment..

Do you mean a separate tab to the stats page? Your badges are listed at the bottom:

(I'm sure you probably know this, but I'm just trying to figure out what you're asking...)
these are pretty lame incentives for people to fork over 3 dollars a month

I think a lot of people are missing the concept of supporting NG.
The supporter upgrade isn't Youtube Red or anything like that. You aren't really paying a subscription fee for any service, all you are doing is showing you love NG and want to help us out. The whole point of NG has always been to give everyone our best features for free.
If you DO buy a supporter upgrade, we give a couple of fringe benefits, but that's not really what the supporter upgrades are about. If we get too crazy with them, it starts to feel like you HAVE to buy one to be a full part of the site, and we're not that kind of greedy corporation.
We appreciate ANY support you guys can offer, be it financial, or through participation.
If you can't afford to buy an upgrade, but you view the site without an ad blocker, you are already helping to support NG.
If you are an artist/musician/programmer and you submit stuff here, you are already helping support NG.
If you take the time to write good reviews that help creators improve their skills, you are helping.
Sharing Newgrounds content with your friends on social media... another big help.
Nobody needs to become a paid supporter to be an important part of the community. Hell, some of you could just try being less of a 'Negative Nancy' all the time and that counts too!
Of course, not everyone wants to be supportive in any way, and that's fine. We're still going to let you use the site for free whether you appreciate it or not. Reality is welcome here at NG!

(Expect a final bill of about $36 after a year of doing this. It may be $11, but it does add up)
Very well aware. The point is that it's worth it, and I'm willing to spend more. The monthly payment is just an easier way to support as well.

Potentially giving supporters the ability to post multiple reviews or even change their review if the content gets updated in any way would be a good start. That and allowing them to review content using the fast star rating at least once a week would be a good start. Offering animated gifs as signatures though, really isn't that much of a new feature. One site I visit all the time allows literally everyone to use them.

I can only hope so...
Thanks for the reply.
Been a supporter before this happened.
Damn, I literally just upped my supporter status for this year, so I won't get to try the monthly option until October of 2016. Still awesome news, though!

Fuck yea, Tom. I'm already a supporter, but I always do my best to represent the ol' New Ground.
btw this news post was posted on my birthday :3
I would love to see a feature goal page, along with the sponsorship goals, Feature goals would show maybe a meter of the status of some of the things we want, like media embedding, steps to completing the mobile site, etc.

The difference after processing costs is pennies and you can check the box to have the subscription renew automatically for the yearly option, so if you're more comfortable doing that or just renewing when the time comes then go for it. :)
Monthly will work for some, who just want to pay as they go, but others will prefer to get it out of the way (and at a lower price).

Sweet, I'll probably do yearly then for simplicity!

similar to the way you have the audio portal links play within a post. People want to be providers of content to their friends, but not necessarily have them go to links provided, they want comments and reactions to remain within their posts, on facebook, twitter or where ever.. being able to embed videos and music on to other sites would definitely help collect views and hopefully ad rev....
I do like how we can share our blog posts, but I'd love more sharing options.. Tumblr, reddit, linkedin, about.me, wordpress,
also while this isnt necessarily the same thing. Sketchfab is really getting big, it would be really nice to be able to embed 3d models into the our art galleries
Love this idea.
I wish I could upgrade to the monthly subscription even though my yearly subscription renews next spring. Can you make that an option?
Can a monthly subscriber change their amount in the middle of the year? The monthly supporter can be risky for NG if people realize a $10 payment might be too much and have to cancel but could still swing $5 instead.
I would love to see Newgrounds able to be fully funded by fans! It would be so cool if you could get rid of adds all together.
I don't know anything about how hard it would be but I bet you could even get a lot of people from Patreon if you offered artist subscriptions where they get the money from fans to release content here
