April was probably one of the best months in a long time. There were SO MANY great, high quality submissions.

Also I'm thinking the Reward prequel didn't get first 'cause of how late it came out in the month. Just a thought ;3

And GIRL & IT really should've ranked higher...

Everything was great though. Really deserving top 5 this month. I still need to get around to reviewing all the Pico Day submissions...

Maybe because of the thumbnail, it looked like one of those really crappy animations you usually see in the Under Judgement section that some person made in 2 days, it's only when you actually watch the animation that you see it's well done.

It was pretty obvious that this would win. It had a rating of, I think, 4.80 at one point, probably the highest of anything I've seen on any submission.

Well I’m glad that Pico’s School Reunion and some other Runner-up Games are there. Just disappointed that Indy Racing Symphony is not there. I think it deserved to be in April 2015 awards, despite the fact it was submitted late. Nocito87 worked very hard on it!

For the movies, yeah. For the games, it was probably one of the worst months in a long time. An idle game AND a clicker game are on the top five. Kill the Plumber definitely deserved the win, though. I'm very pleased with that game.

About the movies, brewstew's new toon was my #1 pick and it didn't even make the runner-ups, which is understandable. Girl & It was my #2, and I'm disappointed that it didn't make the top 5. I'm also disappointed that The Reward didn't get the #1 spot, because it should easily be movie of the year. I'm wondering if there's a "too long; didn't watch" effect going on here. Maybe most voters didn't vote for the Reward or Girl & It because they clicked on them and saw how long they were and then never got around to watching them.

But don't get me wrong, I still love Happy Harry and Warlord of Noodles and Sexual Lobster.

(I must admit I didn't vote for the Reward because I was so sure it was already going to win and I wanted to use my votes on the underdogs. Now I look like an idiot.)

Yeah, I always forget about games. I need to stop doing that :c The best of the month is moreso a popularity contest though since it's the most active voters choosing the winners, so whatever seems trendy at the time (idles and clickers) is bound to place somewhere in the top.

Yeah, my #1 pick didn't make it anywhere in the top either, which kinda surprised me 'cause the reception it got was nearly 100% positive. It got barely any attention though, so that could be it. I didn't even know Brewstew submitted a new thing this month. Seems it didn't get a lot of attention either, which is odd 'cause usually his stuff is highly praised.

The thing with the reward, at least I think, is that it was released on the last day of the month. The fact that it still got 3rd with only counting in the voting for 1 days is still pretty god damn impressive. What I think happened is that either a lot of people didn't notice it in the monthly voting because it was so fresh on the website or they thought it would be in next month's voting since, by all technicalities it should've been since it didn't get an award until the first of may, but since it was frontpaged on April 30'th, it got put into the best of the month ballot. I didn't think it would be on the ballot, but when was doing my voting I saw it so I chose it. A few people I discussed this months nominees with didn't even vote for the reward prequel because they didn't realize it was on the ballot, so maybe that's what happened with a lot of people.

And yeah, I think there could be a "too long; didn't watch" mentality. I released a 15 minute cartoon last month and it got barely any attention, despite being on the front page for a week, so who knows. Though the one exception to that seems to be Warlord-of-Noodle's cartoons, though they're not as long they're still pretty long, sometimes being 7 to 10 minutes.

But yeah, like I said originally there was a TON of great movies submitted this month, and I'm surprised a lot of them didn't even make the top 20, especially this.

(I must admit I didn't vote for the Reward because I was so sure it was already going to win and I wanted to use my votes on the underdogs. Now I look like an idiot.)

Yeah, there was a lot of stuff I was thinking was gonna win too, but they didn't even make the top 20, or ranked way lower than they should've.

Looking at the runner ups again, it looks like this list is mostly parodies. What the fuck?

I guess it really has become a popularity contest :/

It was on the monthly voting ballot for a week, same as every other nominee.

FrogMan and Pico? I watched it. :)

Return to the Playhouse? I think I may have voted for that, but I don't remember.

It's always been a popularity contest, and it should be. The monthly winners are based on what committed users vote for, and they vote for what they like, so stuff that wins is stuff that lots of people like. That is to say, the stuff that wins is "popular."

But I'm guessing what you mean by popularity contest is that certain users and submissions are popular for reasons other than quality and talent and merit. Like maybe users just have charming personalities and get people to like them that way. I don't think that's really what's going on here. But parodies? I agree that they get more popularity than they deserve. The game I released in April was beaten by a glitchy first-time Actionscript experiment with no original art or music. Why? Because it used Zelda sprites.

Yeah, but what I meant was it was only on the site for a day before the monthly voting ballot opened up. A lot of people might've voted in the first day and not even realized it was there.

Yeah, I know it's always been like this and it should be like this, but it's called the *best* of the month, so you would think the winners would be because of quality and not because they were popular.

But I'm guessing what you mean by popularity contest is that certain users and submissions are popular for reasons other than quality and talent and merit. Like maybe users just have charming personalities and get people to like them that way. I don't think that's really what's going on here. But parodies? Yeah, that's pretty much what I meant though really a lot of the most popular artists here are really talented and submit high quality work, so that's not a problem most of the time. While this isn't a change that will probably happen, I think it'd probably be a good idea for parodies to not be eligible for monthly voting. I mean, they can't win the top spot anyways, 'cause despite parodies getting the "best" of the month sometimes, the award winning piece is always "best based on original content", so why even include them in the first place? It would certainly keep a lot of things from being crowned the "best" because they're popular. That would probably cause more problems than it'd solve though, idk.

I wasn't expecting to get into a discussion on this today ;3
