It's a pretty good music genre, I don't understand why so many people here hate it so much, it paved the way to rock n roll which lead itself to stuff like Pink Floyd, it has also had a pretty decent background story for it coming to reality, what do you think about country music Newgrounds?

I admit it, there's this one Taylor Swift song that I like.

I'm pretty sure folk music and blues are what we now call folk music and blues.

Blues led to rock and roll.

It's pretty good, at least some of it.
Unfortunately most of it sounds too similar.

I don't hate it - I just don't listen to it. I suppose a lot of hatred is because cliche pop-country that became mainstream, have corrupted peoples impression of the genre.

i like a few songs by a select number of bands.

i have sex with my tractor regularly.

I dislike it because it's old-style.

I listen to newer bands like Rammstein, Rise Against, Godsmack, and Disturbed.

Country music radio really is just pop music, but with southern accents and topics that appeal to the conservative crowd.

I grew up on a lot of it because of location and family. A lot of it is catchy as hell, and I have a few CDs in my collection that I do consider heads above the rest, but I'd prefer not to listen to it anymore.

What it sounds like you are defending is the older era country music, which is the better version. Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, Dolly Parton, etc.

Today's country music...I haven't paid much attention...but isn't a lot of it depressing stuff?

And the music that goes along with it is just absolutely atrocious, few things offend my sense of hearing more than country.

I couldn't have put it better myself.

The singers all sound the same. The instrumentals all have the same crappy sound. My school bus plays country on the radio. The teachers put that shit on when the students are working. I can't escape it. I can escape it on my bus because I'm allowed to use my iPod then.

I don't hate country....Taylor Swift is the only singer I prefer in the genre though...otherwise, rap or r&b are my favs.

Although I'm not a fan I suppose not all county is bad, but then again I haven't really been exposed to true country music. Unfortunately the country I'm stuck listening too at work is all the popular contemporary crap. which I have grown to despise with a passion. We have come to the point where Rap, Country and Pop really all don't sound all that different from each other. The music industry has really become oversaturated and domesticated.

I don't have it, but I prefer to listen to other genres. It's probably because most country music is cliche, pointless and/or depressing and/or corny. Some songs are creative or humorous, but most of the ones I heard were more catchy than they were meaningful. Maybe the same reasons why I don't like most mainstream pop music.

I'm into some country, not much I can name off the top of my head though. Doc Watson is one of my favorites. Not exactly country, but the Dixie Dreggs are a pretty cool southern/prog band.

As for countries origins, it's hard to say. In it's most basic form, it's a mixture of blues, gospel (of both colors), and Anglo-American folk styles, namely of the Appalachian variant. It also has ragtime elements, as well Western Swing (Though a lot of that is now considered country now).
