I find, along with many other animation specialties, that I do not know what rough layout or final layout is. Just trying to figure out the various positions an animation job might entail besides simply "animator".

layout is a lot like a screenplay. arranging camera and character movements
Layouts are drawings that indicate where all the elements are placed in relation to each other and the background. This is done because in industry production backgrounds are painted by one department and animation is done by a different department. The final layout lets each department do their parts without having to worry about things like perspective or lines of sight not matching up when everything is composited together.
